Quinton de Kock was another key player for Lucknow Super Giants, amassing 508 runs in 15 matches at an average of 36.28 and a striking rate of 148.97. He registered one century and three half-centuries, with his highest score being an explosive 140*. De Kock’s 47 fours and 23 sixes made him a reliable opener for his team.
Leading Gujarat Titans to their maiden IPL title, Hardik Pandya contributed significantly with the bat. He scored 487 runs in 15 matches at an average of 44.27 and a strike rate of 131.26. Although he didn’t score a century, his four half-centuries, highest score of 87*, and consistent middle-order performances were key to GT’s success. RCB’s star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga was a close second, finishing the season with 26 wickets in 16 matches. He bowled 57 overs, conceding 430 runs at an economy rate of 7.54. His best performance came with figures of 5/18, maintaining a bowling average of 16.53 and a strike rate of 13.15.
Kagiso Rabada led the Punjab Kings’ bowling attack efficiently, taking 23 wickets in 13 matches. He bowled 48 overs, conceding 406 runs at an economy rate of 8.45. With an impressive bowling average of 17.65, his best spell of 4/33 proved his impact as a wicket-taker.
With the return of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, it is unlikely that Umran Malik would get a game. He also has competition from Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj. It would be unfortunate to see Umran be on the bench given his skill.
Kuldeep Yadav made a strong comeback in IPL 2022, taking 21 wickets in 14 matches. Bowling 49.4 overs, he conceded 419 runs at an economy rate of 8.43. His best figures of 4/14 reflected his improved consistency, with an average of 19.95 and a strike rate of 14.19.
