But technologically, the neighbouring country is way ahead of other countries. After developing hypersonic missiles, China is now building a hypersonic plane. This plane, if developed, will be able to circumnavigate the entire Earth in just seven hours. It means that if a person wants to go to the next part of the earth, he can easily reach his destination within seven hours. A Beijing-based company named Space Transportation has successfully tested its Yunxing prototype aircraft. This is a commercial aircraft that can fly at a speed of Mach 4 (four times the speed of sound). Let’s know about this hypersonic plane.

Hypersonic Plane Speed

The speed of this hypersonic plane will be 3,069 miles per hour, approx 5,000 kmph. Notably, this is nearly the speed of retired Concorde aircraft.
The supersonic Concorde could fly at a speed of 2,000 kmph, which was more than double the speed of sound. As per several media reports, China’s hypersonic aircraft can cover London to New York in just one and a half to two hours. The Red Dragon is working on this project vigorously.

Which Company Making Hypersonic Plane?

The Beijing-based company Lingkong Tianxing Technology is developing the hypersonic aircraft. The company reported their Yunxing plane prototype took a successful flight over the weekend. With plans for more engine tests in November, they’re setting their sights high.
The ambitious project aims for the debut flight of a full-sized supersonic passenger jet by 2027. The company claims that this highly anticipated aircraft will be capable of reaching Mach 4 speed.

Paris To Beijing In One Hour

The company claims that its hypersonic aircraft can complete the journey between Paris to Beijing in just an hour and Beijing to New York in two hours. Hypersonic travel can significantly reduce travel time between countries.
If successful, this aircraft will become the first supersonic passenger plane built by China in 25 years. Concorde made its last flight in 2003.

America Also In The Race

Commercial supersonic air travel seems to be on the brink of a resurgence with numerous corporations, including Space Transportation, striving to make it a reality. In fact, Venus Aerospace, a US-based company, is currently at work fashioning a jet engine that it confidently claims could achieve Mach 6. This could potentially open doors for a viable hypersonic economy. Meanwhile, Elon Musk, the brain behind SpaceX and Tesla, has hinted at his interest in a supersonic jet. However, with his plate full of several major commitments right now, he isn’t actively chasing this endeavour.
