The sudden downpour brought temperatures down and offered a break from the sweltering conditions, but it also caused waterlogging in many areas. Localities like Lajpat Nagar, RK Puram, and Dwarka reported significant water accumulation.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the day in Delhi, warning of severe thunderstorms and squally winds reaching speeds of 70–80 kmph in the next few hours. The forecast for the next three days includes more spells of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds. A yellow alert has also been announced to caution the public about possible weather-related disruptions.

Today’s forecast suggests mostly cloudy skies with light rain or drizzle likely through the day. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, dust storms, and strong surface winds between 30 to 40 kmph—possibly gusting up to 50 kmph—are expected during the afternoon and evening hours.

As for the temperature, the maximum is likely to settle around 37 degrees celcius, while the minimum is expected to be close to 26 Degree Celsius, offering a brief but welcome respite from the earlier heat.

On Thursday, Delhi’s main weather observatory at Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 38.6 Degree Celsius, slightly below the normal range, while the minimum temperature stood at 26.8 Degree Celsius, which is about two degrees higher than the seasonal average.

With more unstable weather on the way, the IMD has advised residents to stay indoors during storms and remain cautious about potential disruptions in daily routines.

These sudden chills are coming from the mountains as heavy snowfall has been witnessed in hilly areas, which is affecting the plains as well. March is the month that signals the end of winter and the start of the spring season. This is the month when people pack away their winter wear and blankets. But this year seems to be an exception, as North India is still experiencing winter chills. The daytime temperature is also pleasant because of the strong winds.

Five Major North Indian States Hit By Unexpected Cold

States like Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi-NCR, and Uttar Pradesh are experiencing a sudden and unexpected drop in temperatures. The sudden change in weather was due to a western disturbance.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, a rise in facing temperature is expected after Thursday, March 6. Skymet Weather stated that light to moderate rain and snowfall are likely to continue in the Western Himalaya region for 24 hours. After that dry weather is likely to prevail.

Northeast Weather

In Rajasthan, temperatures are projected to decline steadily over the next couple of days. Bihar Weather

Who might succeed Justin Trudeau as the next Prime Minister of Canada following his resignation? Meanwhile, Bihar is facing a slight drop in temperature due to strong winds, which are anticipated to continue in the upcoming days, potentially intensifying in the afternoons. Kumar Gaurav, a scientist at the Patna Meteorological Centre, has indicated that daytime and nighttime temperatures could decrease by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius soon, leading to a yellow alert due to the rise in surface wind speeds.

Central Vigilance Commission orders probe into Arvind Kejriwal’s ‘Sheesh Mahal’ over renovation irregularities https://www.india.com/news/delhi/central-vigilance-commission-orders-probe-into-arvind-kejriwals-sheesh-mahal-over-renovation-irregularities-7617349/ Sat, 15 Feb 2025 08:34:56 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=7617349 New Delhi: Seems like troubles are not getting over for former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, as the Central Vigilance Commission on Sunday passed an order to initiate a detailed investigation into the renovations of the Delhi Chief Minister’s residence (6, Flagstaff Bungalow), earlier used by Kejriwal, on the basis of the report submitted by the CPWD.

The BJP labelled the official residence of Delhi Chief Minister as “Sheesh Mahal” for alleged corruption in the renovation works. The bungalow was occupied by Kejriwal as the chief minister from 2015 till the first week of October last year.

No reaction was received from the AAP or Kejriwal on the matter.

According to BJP leader Vijender Gupta, the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) acknowledged two previous complaints and requested factual reports from the Public Works Department (PWD), leading to its directive for a comprehensive investigation.
In his first complaint to the CVC, the newly-elected BJP MLA from Rohini alleged that Kejriwal flouted building regulations to construct a lavish mansion covering 40,000 square yards (8 acres) of land.

Government properties, including plot Nos. 45 and 47 on Rajpur Road (previously housing senior officials and judges in Type-V flats) and two bungalows (8-A and 8-B, Flag Staff Road) were demolished and merged into the new residence, violating ground coverage and floor area ratio norms and lacking proper layout plan approvals, Gupta alleged.

In his second complaint, Gupta accused of excessive expenditure on the renovation and interior design of the bungalow located at 6, Flag Staff Road. He further alleged significant financial misconduct and the misuse of crores of rupees from taxpayer funds for opulent facilities in the bungalow.

Buzz over Chief Minister’s name intensifies as BJP scores historic win in Delhi polls https://www.india.com/news/delhi/buzz-over-chief-ministers-name-intensifies-as-bjp-scores-historic-win-in-delhi-polls-7602619/ Sun, 09 Feb 2025 02:50:07 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=7602619 New Delhi: The buzz over BJP’s chief ministerial pick intensified on Saturday after the party made a grand return to power in Delhi after a gap of more than 26 years, winning 48 seats in the 70-member Assembly. Pravesh Verma’s political currency skyrocketed with his stupendous victory over AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi by 4,089 votes, positioning him as a potential claimant to the top post in the upcoming BJP government. The BJP winners also included several experienced senior leaders who are also in the race for the chief minister’s post, party leaders said.

“These include Ashish Sood and former state general secretary (organisation) Pawan Sharma,” a top BJP functionary in Delhi said.

Sood, who won from Janakpuri by 18,766 votes, is a senior leader with some hands-on experience in administrative matters gained during BJP’s rule in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

He is also BJP’s in-charge for Goa, and co-in-charge for the party’s Jammu and Kashmir unit.

Sharma, who won from Uttam Nagar by 29,740 votes, is also a frontrunner for the chief minister’s post, BJP leaders said.

He is currently the BJP’s co-in-charge for Assam.

Other serious contenders to the top post include former Delhi BJP presidents Vijender Gupta and Satish Upadhyay.

Gupta, the leader of opposition in the previous Delhi Assembly, scored a hat-trick of wins from Rohini, winning by 37,816 votes.

Upadhyay, the former vice-chairman of New Delhi Municipal Council, is believed to share close ties with the RSS leadership, BJP leaders said.

Co-in-charge for BJP’s Madhya Pradesh unit, Upadhyay defeated AAP stalwart and former minister Somnath Bharti from Malviya Nagar by a slender margin of 2,131 votes.

The BJP leaders also didn’t rule out the possibility of the party’s national leadership placing its bet on a woman candidate for Delhi chief minster’s post.

In that case, Rekha Gupta and Shikha Rai are two experienced leaders who may be considered, they said. While Rai defeated AAP heavyweight Saurabh Bharadwaj from Greater Kailash by 3,188 votes, Gupta won from Shalimar Bagh by more than 29,000 votes.

In case the national leadership opts for someone from outside its legislative party members, a few sitting MPs could also be considered, such as East Delhi MP and Union minister Harsh Malhotra and North-East Delhi MP and prominent Purvanchali face Manoj Tiwari, said a section of Delhi BJP leaders.

Meanwhile, a senior BJP leader cautioned that going by past experiences in Haryana, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, where the party won assembly polls recently, it leaves little room for speculation on such matters.

“You never know… The national leadership can come out with an altogether fresh face who fits the bill and is capable of discharging the duties as the chief minister of Delhi amid high expectations of the people,” he said.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said the decision to pick the chief minister will be taken by the party’s central leadership, adding that all the newly-elected MLAs are capable of discharging the duties assigned to them by the party. PTI VIT ARI ARI

In a 2024 interview with News 18 India, Parvesh Verma recounted a notable story regarding his marriage. The politician disclosed that he informed Swati that if she genuinely wished to marry him, she needed to be prepared to have five children. Parvesh Verma emphasized his long-standing desire for a family of five and mentioned that after considering his stipulation for a few moments, Swati agreed. The BJP MP expressed his happiness, stating that he felt elated when Swati accepted his unconventional requirement for marriage.

Stop Planning For A Fourth Child

Despite Swati agreeing to the condition set by BJP MP Parvesh Verma, circumstances took a different turn. During the same interview, Parvesh mentioned that all three of his children were delivered via cesarean section. Consequently, when he expressed his desire for two more children after the third birth, the doctor recommended against it. Parvesh disclosed that the doctor advised both him and his wife to refrain from trying for a fourth child due to the fact that Swati had undergone cesarean deliveries for all three of their children. The politician confessed that he felt disappointed upon hearing this and even told the doctor, “You have caused me a great loss.”

Political Backgrounds

Parvesh and Swati Verma, belong to two prominent and powerful political families. Parvesh is former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma’s son, while Swati is the daughter of BJP leader Vikram Verma.

Swati Verma made headlines and rose to fame when she filed a nomination for the New Delhi Assembly seat in the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025.

Delhi Assembly Election 2025: EC ‘refused’ to upload booth-wise data, Arvind Kejriwal alleges https://www.india.com/news/delhi/delhi-assembly-election-2025-ec-election-commision-refused-to-upload-booth-wise-data-arvind-kejriwal-alleges-aap-bjp-atishi-pm-modi-delhi-polls-7599246/ Fri, 07 Feb 2025 12:12:23 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=7599246 Delhi Assembly Election 2025: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of “refusing to upload” Form 17C, which provides the data of the total number of votes polled by the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in each Delhi Assembly constituency.

“EC has refused to upload form 17C and number of votes polled per booth in each assembly despite several requests,” the AAP chief said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

The party has also launched a website, transparentelections.in, where they have claimed to have uploaded copies of Form 17C provided to AAP for every assembly constituency. “Aam Aadmi Party has made a website – http://transparentelections.in where we have uploaded all the form 17C of every assembly. This form has all the details of votes polled in each booth,” Kejriwal’s post read.

The AAP chief also claims that they will be presenting the data of every assembly constituency and every polling booth which was set up in the national capital during the February 5 election, and criticising the ECI for not doing the same “in the interest of transparency.”

“Through the day, we will present the data of every assembly and every booth in a tabulated format as well so that every voter can access this information. This is something that the election commission should have done in the interest of transparency but it is unfortunate that they are refusing to do it,” the post added.

Earlier, on Thursday, the AAP national convenor, and candidate for New Delhi Assembly constituency alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to poach the candidates of AAP, offering them Rs 15 crore each. BJP has vehemently denied the allegations.

“Some agencies are showing that the ‘Gali Galoch party’ (Referring to the BJP) is getting more than 55 seats. In the last two hours, 16 of our candidates have received calls that if they leave AAP and join their party, they will make them ministers and will give Rs. 15 crores to each of them,” Kejriwal said.

“If his party is getting more than 55 seats then what is the need for him to call our candidates? Obviously, these fake surveys have been conducted with the sole purpose of creating this atmosphere to break down some candidates. But you abusive people, not even one of our men will break down,” he added.

Meanwhile, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena’s Principal Secretary has written to the Chief Secretary of the Delhi government to conduct an ACB inquiry on allegations of bribes offered to MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Delhi recorded a voter turnout of 60.42 per cent in the high-stakes assembly elections on Wednesday, according to data from the Election Commission of India. As per the ECI data, among the eleven districts, North East recorded the highest voter turnout at 66.25 per cent, while South East had the lowest at 56.16 per cent.

Votes for the Delhi Assembly elections will be counted tomorrow (February 8). Exit polls have varied in their predictions regarding the margin of the BJP’s victory. One poll suggested that the party could win 51-60 out of 70 assembly seats in Delhi, while two other polls predicted an AAP victory.

According to the P-MARQ exit poll, BJP is likely to win 39-49 assembly seats, AAP 21-31 seats and Congress 0-1 seats.
Matrize’s exit poll predicted a close contest between BJP and AAP. It said BJP is likely to win 35-40 seats and AAP 32-37 seats. It said Congress can win one seat.

WeePreside exit poll said AAP could win 46-52 seats, BJP 18-23 seats and Congress 0-1 seat.

‘Punjab govt’ car seized in Delhi; Cash, liquor, and AAP pamphlets found, BJP slams Kejriwal’s party https://www.india.com/news/delhi/punjab-govt-car-seized-in-delhi-cash-liquor-and-aap-pamphlets-found-bjp-slams-kejriwals-party-7577568/ Thu, 30 Jan 2025 01:23:30 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=7577568 New Delhi: A car with a Punjab number plate and ‘Punjab government’ label was found in the national capital’s Punjab Bhavan on Copernicus Marg on Wednesday night. After checking the vehicle, police seized a huge amount of cash, liquor bottles, and Aam Aadmi Party pamphlets from the car. Following the recovery, the Delhi Police registered a case and initiated necessary legal proceedings.

Notably, the vehicle was seized less than a week before the Delhi Assembly elections.

As soon as the news was out, the Punjab Government promptly responded and issued a clarification, stating that the registration number on the car was ‘forged and fake’ and that it did not belong to any state government or its employees.

On Wednesday night, Tilak Marg police station received information that a suspicious car with a Punjab number plate was parked near Punjab Bhavan. A team of cops reached the spot, and after inspection, cash worth lakhs, liquor bottles, and various pamphlets of the Aam Aadmi Party were found, Delhi police said.

Appropriate legal action is being initiated at Police Station Tilak Marg of New Delhi District, the police said.

The Bhartiya Janata Party slammed the AAP party over the recovery. BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal stated that the incident has “exposed the disgusting face of AAP.”

“Delhi police have caught a vehicle of Punjab government and cash and liquor has been recovered from it. With this, the disgusting face of AAP has been exposed in Delhi. They have fooled the public of Delhi in the name of ‘Aam Aadmi’…Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP government is functioning in Delhi on the foundations of corruption, scams and lies. There will be a change in Delhi and a BJP government will be formed,” the BJP MP told news agency ANI.

AAP’s national spokesperson, Priyanka Kakkar counter BJP’s allegations, terming them as “hilarious accusations.” She said that the owner of the vehicle is from Maharashtra but is being falsely shown bas eing from the national capital.

“This is a hilarious allegation and the Punjab government has also issued a clarification that no car with this number plate belonged to the Punjab government. The car never entered Punjab Bhawan. The registration number of the vehicle is of a Ford Ecosport car… The owner of the vehicle is from BJP-ruled Maharashtra, but they are showing that the owner of the vehicle is from Delhi,” Kakkar told ANI.

The Punjab government has clarified that the vehicle is registered to Maj. Anubhav Shivpuri, who was assigned to the Army Dental College in Pathankot three years ago and is a permanent resident of Khadki, Maharashtra.

“The registered vehicle model on the registration number PB35AE1342 is the Ford Eco Sport of make year 2018 but the actual vehicle apprehended by the police belongs to the Hyundai Creta series. This confirms that the vehicle’s number plate is forged and fake. High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) is mandatory for all vehicles, and the registration plate visible in the video is an ordinary one, without the features of HSRP, hence easy to forge,” the statement read.

The statement dismissed any link to the Punjab government, asserting, “Our records show that there is no vehicle owned or rented by the Government of Punjab. The seized vehicle is not associated with the Government of Punjab in any way.” The elections in Delhi are scheduled for February 5, with vote counting set for February 8. A competitive race is ongoing among the ruling AAP, BJP, and Congress, with each party criticizing the others on multiple issues in the capital.
