Shivaji Maharaj’s Wife Soyarabai Mohite- Bhosale

Soyarabai was married to Shivaji Maharaj at a very young age.

The marriage took place when Shivaji visited his father Shahaji at Bangalore with his mother Jijabai.

Soyarabai had two children with Shivaji, daughter Balibai and son Rajaram.

After the death of Shivaji Mahaja’s mother, Jijabai in 1674, Soyarabai started playing a major role In Maharaja’s family.

When Shivaji Maharaj passed away in 1680, Soyarabai wanted her son, Rajaram, to ascend the throne after Maharaj.

Shivaji Maharaja’s elder son, Sambhaji Maharaj, was unaware of his father’s death and was not around during Shivaji’s cremation.

Soyarabai established a good relationship with the Maratha’s courtiers, and put her 10 year old son on the vacant throne of Maratha.

But Sambhaji Maharaj, Shivaji Maharaja’s elder son, returned and replaced her son from the throne.
