Madhya Pradesh Budhni By-Election result 2024 LIVE: Congress candidate Rajkumar Patel leads with 7000 votes, can BJP make a comeback in Shivraj Singh Chouhan's stronghold

The counting of votes for the Budhni bypoll is in progress, with 20 candidates competing for the position of the next Budhni MLA. This byelection was necessitated following the resignation of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. Chouhan vacated the Budhni seat after being elected to the Lok Sabha from Vidisha in June 2024. Subsequently, he was appointed to the Union Cabinet as the Agriculture Minister, leaving Budhni without representation in the state Assembly.

Located in Sehore district in the Malwa North region of Madhya Pradesh, Budhni is a key constituency with historical significance for the BJP.

Key Contestants in the 2024 Budhni Bypoll:

  • Rajkumar Patel (Indian National Congress)
  • Ramakant Bhargava (Bharatiya Janata Party)
  • Aarti Sharma (Independent)
  • Abdul Rashed (Independent)
  • Ajay Singh Rajput (Independent)
  • Anand Kumar Shyam (Rashtriya Gondvana Party)
  • Arjun Arya (Samajwadi Party)

The bypoll result will reveal if the BJP can maintain its stronghold on Budhni or if the constituency sees a shift in power.
