Tanu was in a six-year relationship with Bhikam “Vicky” Mawai. Hours before her murder, Tanu posted a 52-second video on social media, accusing her family of threatening her life and pressuring her into an unwanted marriage. “I want to marry Vicky. My family initially agreed but later refused. They beat me daily and threaten to kill me. If something happens to me, my family will be responsible,” Tanu said in the video, naming her father and other family members.

Following the video circulation, Superintendent Dharmveer Singh along with other police officers arrived at Tanu’s home to mediate the conflict. A panchayat community was also established to resolve the matter. During the intervention, Tanu requested to be taken to a One Stop Centre for her safety, but her father instead of speaking to her in private, claimed that he could persuade her to comply.

After which, Mahesh shot his daughter in the chest with a country-made firearm. Simultaneously, Rahul, her cousin, fired a shot on Tanu’s forehead, neck, and the area between her eye and nose to ensure her death. Tanu collapsed immediately, dying of her injuries. This incident took place ahead of Tanu’s wedding, which was scheduled for January 18. 

The police have arrested Mahesh Gurjar and his weapon has been seized. While, efforts to locate and apprehend Rahul are underway.

How The Crime Was Committed In A Crowded Place

As per the woman’s statement, after the victim had a fight with her husband five men approached her and started harassing her. The accused men then raped her one by one.

The Police Action

The Assistant Superintendent of Police has reported the arrest of nearly 100 people as part of an ongoing investigation. She referred to the gang-rape incident as a sensitive issue and underscored that every measure is being taken to safeguard the survivor’s identity. The survivor shared crucial information with the police about one of the five suspects, highlighting distinctive tattoos on his hand and chest.

The victim and her husband approached the police at around 1.30 pm on Tuesday.
“The forensic staff and I rushed to the spot. The medical test of the survivor was conducted and an FIR was registered the same day at 7 pm,” DSP said.

None of the accused has been arrested so far. Cops have rounded up more than 100 people and suspects.

Mentally Ill Woman Raped In Indore

In Indore, a woman in her 40s, suffering from mental health issues, was raped by a man half her age. This crime took place under the cover of darkness, in the wee hours of Tuesday, police said on Wednesday.

Alok Kumar Sharma, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, revealed that the suspect, who has already been caught, took advantage of the situation when he saw the woman walking all by herself on the streets.

“He took her with him, raped her and fled,” the police officer said, adding that the victim was found by the police in their patrol vehicle.
Police identified the accused by through CCTV footage and arrested him.

The accused was produced in a local court that remanded him to judicial custody, Sadar Bazar police station in-charge Tarun Singh Bhati said.
The victim will be hospitalised for treatment of mental illness, the police officer said.

The victim told police that after offering prayer, they (the couple) were sitting at a place when a group of persons came and overpowered them. The accused first tied the husband to a tree and beat him and then raped the woman, according to the victim’s complaint. The accused also filmed a video of rape and threatened that they would make the video viral on social media if the couple informed the police.

In her statement, the survivor told the police that she and her husband had an argument near a fountain, about 2 kms from a famous temple in the Gurh industrial area. Later, five men took turns to rape her at the spot. She also said that one of the five persons who allegedly sexually assaulted her has tattoos on his hand and chest.

The victim had lodged a complaint on October 22, following which, a medical test was conducted confirming rape. The victim was admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Rewa.

According to reports, the couple studied together in college and were recently married. The victim also told police that the five to six persons who committed the crime were drunk.

Police also confirmed the incident, saying that an FIR was registered on October 22, however, no one has been arrested so far. Rewa Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Singh, while clarifying the incident, said that the incident took place on the afternoon of October 21 and the victim reached the police station on the afternoon of October 22.

He said that police immediately registered the case without any delay. “Looking at the seriousness of the case, the police rounded up several suspects,” he said, assuring that all accused persons will be arrested soon.

According to news agency PTI, more than 100 people had been rounded up by the police in connection with the case. However, no arrests had been made yet. The woman had got married recently and the couple is in the age group of 19-20, still in college, Rewa headquarters Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Himali Pathak told PTI.

The incident has sparked political controversy, alleging that police kept the matter close deliberately due to the Regional Industry Conclave organised in Rewa on October 23.

“The victim couple kept visiting the police station, but their plea was not heard. Police deliberately attempted to suppress the matter as Regional Industry Conclave was scheduled on the next day (Oct 23) in Rewa,” Kavita Pandey, a local Congress leader said.

Break Up Led To Crime

When the victim found that Kapilesh was not a soldier and worked as a cook at a private hostel she broke up with him. The accused then raped the woman multiple times by blackmailing her with her private photos and videos.

Complaint Filed And The Arrest

After enduring the incident, the woman gathered the courage to file a complaint against Sharma. Her accusations leveraged several aspects of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), prominently Section 376, dealing explicitly with rape. Promptly, a thorough probe began into this alarming incident. Consequently, the individual under suspicion, was detained by the police in Nagpur, Maharashtra on October 18.

Similar Case

In a similar incident, a 28-year-old man was taken into custody by the Delhi Police on strong suspicions of sexually abusing a woman constable. He tricked her by promising to marry her and faked his identity of being an Indian Army officer.
When police arrived for the arrest, the accused along with his kin and an unruly crowd of around 30 people, boldly confined them and attacked them. He was arrested later.

The victim is a constable at the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). She wrote in her complaint that she came into contact with the accused through a matrimonial website. On the matrimony website the accused pretended to be a Major in the Indian Army.

A CCTV clip shared on social media showed the victim, Vikas Sharma, Assistant sub-inspector of the Madhya Pradesh State Agriculture Marketing (Mandi) Board, being chased and beaten by the assailants.

In the video, Sharma, the Mandi Board inspector wearing a khaki uniform, is seen running towards a Dhaba (eatery) while being chased by a group four-five men. The attackers finally catch up to Sharma, hitting him with plastic chairs, while kicking and slapping the victim, the video showed.

Giving details, a senior police official said Vikas Sharma, an Assistant sub-inspector of Mandi Board, was part of a flying squad which had intercepted a truck heading to Guna from Shivpuri.

“The truck was transporting groundnuts but did not have the necessary Mandi tax permit. During the inspection, some men arrived in an SUV and started throwing stones at the Mandi board officials. Later, they also chased and attacked Sharma,” the police said, adding that a case has been registered against the truck owner, Deepak Tomar and searches are underway to arrest him.

An FIR has also been registered against the men who assaulted Sharma and CCTV footage of the area is being scanned to identify them, said an official.

Further investigation in the case is underway.

He was arrested in Indore on Saturday, 14 September 2024, said a police official.

The victim has alleged that the 30-year-old man, a naik in the army currently posted in Assam, raped her at a city hotel on Friday night (September 13), Women’s police station in-charge Kaushalya Chauhan said.

“She was crying in pain when she came to the police station. She is stable now. The accused was held under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The two knew each other for the past one-and-half years,” Chauhan said.

The incident took place around 4 am in Khalkapura area, said an official.

As the wall collapsed, nine persons in the adjacent house were trapped under the debris. While two were rescued, seven died, said Datia district collector Sandeep Makin.

The fort, called `Rajgarh’, is believed to be 400 years old, and once housed a museum which was later shifted elsewhere, said a local resident.

The State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) team took part in the rescue operation that lasted more than six hours, the collector said.

The two injured persons are undergoing treatment at a local hospital, he added.

Expressing grief over the incident in a post on X, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each for the kin of the victims.

The SDERF team reached the spot quickly, but precious lives could not be saved despite strenuous efforts because of the narrow lane where the house is situated, the CM said.

As per collector Makin, five of the deceased belong to one family, while the other two belong to another family.

The deceased were identified as Niranjan Vanshkar (55), Mamta Vanshkar (45), Shivam (20), Suraj (17), Radha (23), Kishan Vanshkar (55) and Prabha (50).

Congress MLA from Datia, Rajendra Bharti, criticized the administration for the “slow” rescue operation, claiming that it was unprepared to deal with such situations.

He also demanded Rs five lakh compensation each for the kin of the deceased, and Rs two lakh for the injured persons.

Senior BJP leader and former state home minister Narottam Mishra also visited the spot, and expressed grief over the incident. He attended the last rites of the victims.

“They started beating up one of the officers sitting in a car and also the women”, ANI quoted Lokendra Singh Hirore as saying.

According to Badgonda police station in-charge Lokendra Singh Hirore, the Indian Army officers were undergoing a Young Officers (YO) course at the Infantry School in Mhow cantonment town. They had gone with two women friends to a spot near the firing range at Chhoti Jam in the afternoon.

Suddenly, they were surrounded by eight men armed with pistols, knives, and sticks. The men beat up the trainee officers and the women before robbing them of their money and belongings. The situation escalated when the attackers took one officer and a woman hostage, sending off the other officer and a woman to fetch a ransom of Rs. 10 lakh.

One of them managed to dial his senior officers but by the time police arrived from Mhow, 30km away, the woman had already been gang-raped, as per a report in TOI.  The victims were immediately taken to Mhow Civil Hospital for a thorough medical examination at 6.30 am.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Mohammad Salim, was arrested after the rape video was found on his phone. Salim, resident Prakash Nagar in Nagda area of Ujjain is an auto-driver by profession, they said.

A senior officer said they have also recovered the mobile phone which the accused used to film the Ujjain rape video, adding that it is also being investigated whether he shot the video as part of a “conspiracy”.

“We are trying to ascertain the intention behind deliberately making the video viral by the accused,” said Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma.

The SP further said that the information is being collected about the person with who Salim shared the video.

A case has been registered against the accused under sections 72, 77, 294 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), IT Act and Indecent Representation of Women Act, he added.

Woman raped on Ujjain road

In a shocking incident, a woman was raped in broad daylight on a busy footpath in Agar Naka area of Ujjain on Wednesday. As per the police, the woman, who works as a ragpicker to earn a living, was forced by the accused to consume alcohol on the pretext of marriage and then raped her.

The vile act was filmed by passersby who instead of stopping the assault, recorded it on their mobile phones and shared it on social media where it went viral.

Police took cognizance of the incident after the video went viral and arrested the accused, Lokesh, who had fled the spot after the incident.

“Accused Lokesh promised to marry her, made her drink liquor and then raped her on Wednesday. Some people who were passing by shot videos of the incident instead of stopping the crime. Lokesh later fled from the spot. After the woman filed a complaint when the effect of alcohol wore off, Lokesh was arrested,” said Kotwali Area’s City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Om Prakash Mishra.

It is unclear whether the wolf involved in the attack has been captured. When asked about the police’s identification of the attacker as a wolf, Damor chose not to comment, noting that wildlife matters are handled by the forest department. The DFO said “Going by the purported video clip doing the rounds on social media, it is too early to say about which animal it was. In the video, the animal looks like a jackal to me, a bit smaller than a wolf.” When asked about the police’s claim that it was a wolf, the DFO denied to comment on it but added it was the forest department that deals with wildlife.

“Investigations are on. The victims have suffered bruises. Patrolling in the area has been intensified,” he further added.

This incident in Madhya Pradesh comes amid recent news of wolf attacks in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. In Bahraich district, wolves have been linked to eight deaths, including seven children, over the past two months. Around 30 other people have also been injured in these attacks.

“An incident occurred under Raj Nagar police station limits where two masked men stopped a bus which was going towards Satna, and took money from the conductor, snatched mobile phones and mangalsutras from passengers and ran away from the spot,” Chhatarpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Agam Jain told ANI.

After getting information about the incident, the police team immediately became active and began searching for the accused. The police also got some solid clues, the officer said, adding that they would crack the case as soon as possible.

“The accused came on a bike and were carrying khatta in their hands. The investigation into the matter is underway, soon further updates will be disclosed,” he added. 

Police Response and Arrest

The incident came to light when a video of the rape surfaced online, prompting action from the authorities. City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Om Prakash Mishra revealed that the woman, when the effect of alcohol wore off, reported the crime to the police. Subsequently, Lokesh was arrested by a police team within two hours of the FIR being filed.

Following his arrest, Lokesh confessed to the act during police interrogation. The victim underwent a medical examination, and Lokesh was presented before the court. In compliance with the court’s directive, Lokesh has been remanded to Bherugarh jail. Additionally, the woman provided her statement in the court. The video evidence of the assault was also submitted to the authorities for further investigation.

In the viral video, the teacher, identified as Veer Singh Medha, is seen chopping a little girl’s hair with a pair of scissors who is crying incessantly and begging him to stop.

Medha, who was allegedly in an inebriated state at the time, can be seen arguing will a local villager who confronted him when he rushed to the school after hearing the child’s cries where he found the teacher chopping the girl’s hair.

Upon being confronted by the villager, Medha claimed his actions were necessary as the children in the school were not studying.

When the villager warned him against chopping the girl’s hair, saying he would shoot a video, the teacher allegedly told him, “You can shoot the video but nobody will be able to do anything to me.”

Meanwhile, Ratlam District Collector Rajesh Batham took cognizance of the incident after a video of the teacher’s vile act went viral on social media.

Batham said the teacher has been suspended and order to this effect has been issued by Tribal Department’s Assistant Commissioner Ranjana Singh, adding that Medha will also face criminal charges for his actions.

“The widely shared video eventually reached the collector, who ordered a probe. Based on the girl’s statement and preliminary investigations, the teacher was suspended,” said an official.

The tractor trolley was carrying some residents of Ghughas village in Damoh district to Jatashankar in Chhatarpur district, the SP said.

The deceased persons included two women. They were identified as Hemendra (10), Chhoti Bai (45), Lakshman (17) and Ganjli Bahu (50). Over 20 persons sustained injuries; six of them were admitted to the district hospital, the police officer added.

According to the boy’s Father, Hardyal Singh, the incident took place when he and his wife were working in the fields and the boy was at home with his friends. They were watching cartoon on the mobile phone while it was plugged in for charging. Suddenly, the device exploded, injuries the boy.

“We were in the fields when the neighbour told us about the accident, after which we came running. After examining him, the doctor referred him to a hospital in Chhindwara. He has injuries on both his hands and thighs. Another child was injured and was treated at a local hospital,” he said.

After treatment, the boy was shifted to the surgical ward, and he is in stable condition now, said Dr Anurag Vishkarma, District Hospital Chhindwara.

“After first aid, he has been shifted to the surgical ward. His condition is stable now. He has suffered deep injuries in his legs and hands,” ani quoted Vishwakarma as saying.

This is not the first mobile explosion incident.

Earlier this month, a 31-year-old man astonishingly escaped unhurt when his mobile phone burst into flames while charging aboard the Chennai-Mysore Vande Bharat train at the Vaniyambadi railway station in Tirupattur.

Around 8 in the morning, a passenger incident occurred near the Vaniyambadi railway station in Tirupattur. The traveller was simply trying to disconnect his phone from the charger when unexpectedly, the device exploded. In no time, a dense screen of smoke shrouded his compartment, leaking into the neighbouring ones as well.

Passengers, both scared and mindful, promptly alerted the railway officials. Responding to the emergency, the train was stopped at the Vaniyambadi station. Soon after, the police intervened, flinging open the doors of the smoke-filled compartments.

According to the police, the transporters have claimed that the truck was looted on August 15, after the robbers drugged the driver and gagged him.

“We are verifying the claim of the transporters of some 1500 iPhones worth Rs 500 crore getting looted. Apple, which manufactures these phones, has not contacted police so far,” a senior official said.

“I am at the spot, some 3 kilometres from the district headquarters, and videography of the truck is in progress,” Sagar Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Uikey told news agency PTI.

The officer informed that the container truck was on its way from Gurugram in Haryana to Chennai, adding that the loot began in the adjoining Narsinghpur district.

“A case will be registered shortly after the initial probe is complete,” Uikey said.

Meanwhile, following the robbery, one police officer was suspended and two were “line attached” (taken off field duty) for alleged dereliction of duty, officials said.

Sagar Zone Inspector- General of Police Pramod Verma “line attached” Bandari police station in-charge inspector Bhagchand Uikey and assistant sub-inspector Rajendra Pandey and suspended head constable Rajesh Pandey on Friday for showing negligence in the case, they said.

The personnel against whom action was taken had not registered a complaint when the driver of the truck approached them, the additional SP added.
