The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki today reported a 60.5 per cent jump in its net profit at INR 1,284.2 crore for the fourth quarter. The company had posted a net profit of INR 800.05 crore in the same period last fiscal year, Maruti Suzuki India said in a statement. "Higher volumes, material cost reduction initiatives, favourable foreign exchange and lower sales promotion expenses contributed to the bottom-line during the quarter," the company said in a statement. Net sales during the quarter stood at INR 13,272.6 crore, up 12.3 per cent against INR 11,818.13 crore in the same period last fiscal.

Country’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has reported 23 per cent increase in sales of its eco-friendly factory-fitted CNG vehicles in 2014-15 fiscal at 62,996 units. Last year the company had sold a total of 51,215 units of factory- fitted CNG vehicles in the previous fiscal. "The contribution of CNG vehicles to total sales increased to 5.4 per cent from 4.9 per cent in FY 2013-14," MSI said in a statement.

With a strong sales momentum throughout the year, Honda City registered 101,299 units of cumulative sales since its launch in January 2014. First introduced in India in January 1998, the previous 3 generations of the Honda City had brought joy to over 4.3 lakh customers across the country and had been the country’s most successful sedan. Japanese automaker Honda Motor’s Indian subsidiary Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) registered its highest ever monthly domestic sales of 22,696 units during March 2015 and reported a growth of over 23% as compared to 18,426 units in March 2014. Last month, the company sold 1,642 units of small car Brio, 8,128 units of compact sedan Amaze, 3,049 units of Mobilio and 9,777 units of the mid-sized sedan City. Moreover the company also sold 100 units of sports utility vehicle CR-V.

India's second largest automaker - Hyundai Motor India Ltd has recorded a growth of 12.9 per cent in domestic sales. As per the company, it has sold 39,525 units last month as compared to 35,003 units last year for the same period. Exports stood at 10,215 units which when compared with last year's figure of 16,705 units indicate a decline of 38.9 per cent. As for the cumulative sales figure, the number recorded for March 2015 was 49,740 units in contrast to 51,708 units, which again shows a decline of 3.8 per cent.

Country's largest car-maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) today reported a marginal 1.6 per cent decline in its total sales for March at 1,11,555 units as against 1,13,350 units in the same month a year ago. The company said its domestic sales increased by 1.4 per cent during the month to 1,03,719 units as against 1,02,269 units in March 2014. Sales of mini segment cars, including, Alto and WagonR, rose marginally to 40,159 units as compared to 40,085 units in the year-ago month, MSI said in a statement.

The industry body in India today revealed that car sales in India grew by 6.85 per cent in February this year, reflecting improving consumer sentiments, prompting SIAM to expect it to remain in positive territory with single digit growth this fiscal. According to the data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), domestic passenger car sales stood at 1,71,727 units in February this year as compared to 1,60,717 units in the same month of 2014. "This is a reflection of the improving consumer sentiments. With the Budget addressing issues that will lead to overall economic growth, we expect car sales this fiscal to be in positive territory with single digit growth," SIAM Deputy Director General Sugato Sen told reporters here.

Shares of auto maker Mahindra & Mahindra today fell by nearly 4 per cent after the company reported 10 per cent decline in total sales in February. M&M's stock dipped 3.26 per cent to settle at INR 1,235.85 on the BSE. During the day, it slipped 4.18 per cent to INR 1,224.05. At the NSE, it ended 3.74 per cent lower at INR 1,230.35. Mahindra & Mahindra had yesterday reported 10 per cent decline in total sales at 38,033 units in February. It had sold 42,166 units in the same month last year, the company had said in a statement.

Car sales in India were at a slow lane in February with main players Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai posting single digit growth during the month while others like GM India and Mahindra & Mahindra saw decline in sales. Tata Motors and Honda Cars India were, however, exceptions posting healthy double-digit growth rates during the month. The country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India's domestic sales increased by 8.2 per cent during the month to 1,07,892 units as against 99,758 units in February 2014.
