After India executed Operation Sindoor in which nine terror sites deep inside Pakistan were destroyed, Pakistan attempted to engage a number of military targets on the night of May 7. The military targets were engaged in Northern and Western India, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj, using drones and missiles. This was in response to India’s Operation Sindoor. According to the news agency ANI, these were neutralised by the Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems. The debris of these attacks is now being recovered from a number of locations that prove the Pakistani attacks.
It is to be noted that in response to ‘Operation Sindoor’, a rattled Pakistani military launched missiles simultaneously towards 15 Indian cities, aiming to target military bases. However, all these attacks were intercepted and destroyed mid-air by the S-400 ‘Sudharshan’ air defense system provided to India by Russia.
Indian Air Force S-400 Sudarshan Chakra air defence missile systems were fired last night against targets moving towards India. The targets were successfully neutralised in the operation multiple domain experts told ANI. However, an official Government confirmation is awaited.
Today morning Indian Armed Forces targeted Air Defence Radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan. Indian response has been in the same domain with same intensity as Pakistan. It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised.
The strikes, executed by the Indian Armed Forces, targeted nine key terror camps in Pakistan linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen. Four of the targets were located inside Pakistan and the remaining five were situated in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The security forces targeted four terrorist camps in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sarjal, and Mehmoona Joya. The five other locations in PoJK on India’s target were Markaz Ahle Hadith Barnala in Bhimber, Markaz Abbas and Maskar Raheel Shahid in Kotli, Shawai Nallah Camp, and Markaz Syedna Bilal, in Muzaffarabad.
This demonstration of defensive capability likely drew attention from China as well, given that Pakistan employs Chinese air defense systems, which were unable to prevent the failure in this instance.
This was the first use of the system gifted to Prime Minister Modi by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The successful interception highlighted the strength and resilience of India’s defense capabilities, signaling that any hostile act would be met with a decisive response. The effectiveness of this operation likely raised concerns not only in Pakistan but also in its strategic ally, China. Despite relying on Chinese air defense technology, Pakistan’s systems were unable to counter India’s advanced security measures.
The S-400 system, referred to as the “Sudarshan Chakra” by the Indian military, is a Russian-made air defense platform capable of tracking targets up to 600 kilometers away and intercepting them at ranges of up to 400 kilometers.
Currently, India operates four S-400 squadrons. One is stationed in Pathankot to cover Jammu and Kashmir as well as Punjab, while another is deployed to safeguard strategic regions in Rajasthan and Gujarat.
The name takes inspiration from Hindu mythology, where the Sudarshan Chakra is depicted as a formidable spinning weapon wielded by Lord Vishnu. In a similar vein, the S-400 system is regarded as a vital asset in India’s defense arsenal, designed to rapidly detect and neutralize aerial threats.
China’s weapons and technology form the backbone of Pakistan’s defense capabilities. However, the success of the S-400 system has raised serious questions about the reliability of Chinese technology. India’s ability to intercept every missile before it could reach the ground has heightened China’s concerns. This development has exposed the limitations of Chinese defense systems on the global stage.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has increased the intensity of its unprovoked firing across the Line of Control using mortars and heavy calibre artillery in areas in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar and Rajouri sectors in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sixteen innocent lives have been lost, including three women and five children, due to Pakistani firing. India was compelled to respond to bring Mortar and Artillery fire from Pakistan to a halt. Indian Armed Forces reiterate their commitment to non-escalation, provided it is respected by the Pakistani military.
