Amid the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, on Thursday, May 8, 2025, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued strict instructions to all OTT platforms, media streaming apps and digital intermediaries immediately remove any web series, movie, song, podcast or digital content made in Pakistan, whether free or on subscription. The order comes into effect immediately.
The order has come against the rising border tensions between India and Pakistan. During the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, in which India responded to the Pahalgam terror attack that occurred on April 22, and the shelling by Pakistan at the Line of Control.
"In the interest of national security, all OTT platforms, media streaming platforms and intermediaries operating in India are advised to discontinue the web-series, films, songs, podcasts and other streaming media content, whether made available on a subscription based model or otherwise, having its origins in Pakistan with immediate effect," said the ministry during a statement.

Prior to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting ordering strict content restrictions, many social media handles of Pakistani celebrities were restricted access in Indian digital platforms. Many users reported that verified accounts of actors, singers, and social media influencers from Pakistan were restricted on Indian digital platforms, including YouTube, Instagram, and X.
