Meet actor from the Kapoor family, who left acting, started his business, now owns…, sells keema pav

The most popular family in the Bollywood industry has been in the business since 1927. We are talking about the Kapoor family, which began with Prithvinath Kapoor, one of the founding figures of Hindi cinema. Apart from being an actor, he established Prithvi Theatres in 1944. Later, under his son Shashi Kapoor and daughter-in-law Jennifer Kendal, Prithvi Theatre merged with the Indian Shakespeare theatre company, “Shakespeareana.”

The company finally found a permanent home with the inauguration of Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai on November 5, 1978. They staged more than 2,600 plays including Deewar, Pathan, Ghaddar, Aahuthi, Kalaakar, Paisa and Kisaan.

By 1983, the Prithvi Cafe, attached to the theatre, had become a popular gathering spot for artists and art lovers. Following Jennifer Kapoor’s passing, her eldest son, Kunal Kapoor, took over the responsibility of running the theatre. Over the years, Prithvi Cafe has welcomed countless visitors from across Mumbai.

Kunal Kapoor

For the unversed, Kunal made his debut with the 1972 English-language film Siddhartha and later appeared in Shyam Benegal’s Junoon. His first mainstream Bollywood film was Ahista Ahista, where he starred opposite Padmini Kolhapure. He also acted in Vijeta. However, he eventually left acting to establish his own company, Adfilm-Valas, which focused on producing and directing television commercials. After some time, he shifted his complete focus to managing Prithvi Theatre.

The cafe offers an extensive menu with a variety of options to choose from. Some of their must-try items include Keema Pav, Apple Cinnamon Muffin, Cheese Paratha, Amritsari Masala Kulcha, and Irish Coffee.
