Vinod Kambli informed in an interview that he had suffered heart attack a few years back as wife Andrea Hewitt drove him to hospital. Sachin Tendulkar had paid for his treatment at the hospital after suffering the heart attack.
Vinod Kambli was admitted to Akruti Hospital in Thane late last year where he was diagnosed with having clots in his brain as well as urinary infection. He was admitted in hospital for a couple of weeks and discharged in first week of January this year.
Vinod Kambli has also suffered from depression and all of it because of alcohol addiction. Former India cricketer revealed he had got treated for alcohol addiction multiple times.
Sunil Gavaskar is helping out Vinod Kambli with his 'Champs Foundation' which will pay him Rs 30000 per month. Kambli's monthly income will double as he gets Rs 30000 as BCCI pension. He will also get Rs 30000 per year for medical expenses from Gavaskar's foundation, according to a report in TOI.
Vinod Kambli used to have net worth of Rs 12 crore but all of that has been lost due to his alcohol addiction. Before Sunil Gavaskar's help, wife Andrea Hewitt and his children were surviving with only BCCI pension of Rs 30000 per month.
Vinod Kambli played in 17 Tests and 104 ODIs for India, scoring back-to-back Test double centuries in his 3rd and 4th Test.
