Tel Aviv: Israel, which is fighting a war with the militant group Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, has again dominated the world arms market. In a recent report published by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Tel Aviv has made its place among the top 10 arms-exporting countries. It is a very big achievement for a country that has only 9.76 million people. Israel stood at number 8 on the world’s top 10 arms-selling countries by selling 3.1 percent of weapons to other countries across the world between 2020 and 2024. Notably, the United States tops the list by selling war weapons to as many as 107 countries. Israel has sold billions of dollars worth of weapons to major countries, including India, the United States, and Germany.
It is worth noting that India and Israel’s friendship continues from Kargil till today. Even in the Gaza war India has shown its friendship by providing several tons of explosives and drones to Israel.
The SIPRI report indicates a minor decrease in Israel’s arms exports during the Gaza conflict. During this period, Israel accounted for 1.9 percent of global weapon imports. The United States was the largest supplier of arms to Israel, followed by Germany and Italy. In 2024, the U.S. announced a contract with Israel for F-15 fighter jets valued at $18.8 billion. Additionally, Israel exports weapons to several countries, including Germany, India, the United States, Morocco, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines.
Ukraine, which is currently engaged in war with Russia, has emerged as the largest arms importer globally. India stands in the second place. Over recent years, defence ties between India and Israel have significantly strengthened.
India has upheld its friendship with Israel, which provided precision-guided bombs during the Kargil conflict.
Despite facing worldwide pressure during the Gaza war, India sent multiple tons of explosives to Israel.
Additionally, India has supplied Israeli-made rockets and drones to Israel. In return, Israel has supplied India with various advanced weaponry that has bolstered India’s security.
