Reliance Jio Infocomm: Richest Asian and chairman of Reliance Industries Mukesh Ambani is riding high on the success of his telecom venture Jio. In fact, his telecom company Reliance Jio, since it was founded in 2016, is reportedly the largest telecommunication provider in India.
Reliance Jio Infocomm is helmed by Mukesh Ambani’s elder son Akash Ambani.
Since 2016, Reliance Jio Infocomm has been a major service provider to Indian customers. Along with time, Jio has also launched many different plans at affordable rates, including free internet data. The company is moving only in the forward direction.
According to the market reports, Jio has topped in adding new subscribers in December 2024. As per TRAI data, Reliance Jio Infocomm added 3,906,123 wireless subscribers, while Sunil Mittal’s Bharti Airtel saw a net addition of 1,033,009 subscribers during the same period.
On the other hand, the other big player Vodafone Idea lost 1,715,975 wireless subscribers while state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) lost 316,599 and 896,988 wireless subscribers respectively.
Jio was the leader with 476.58 million subscribers, followed by Bharti Airtel with 289.31 million subscribers, and Vodafone Idea with 126.38 million subscribers.
According to a Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) report released on Tuesday, 11 March 2025, the total telephone subscriber base in India grew marginally to 1,189.92 million in December 2024 with Jio adding the highest number of subscribers in both mobile and fixed-line segments.
Total telephone subscribers stood at 1,187.15 million in November. While urban telephone subscriptions rose from 659.87 million in November to 663.37 million in December, rural subscriptions fell from 527.27 million to 526.56 million during the same period, added TRAI.
