Doug Bracewell, the ex-New Zealand fast bowler, tested positive for cocaine and had subsequently completed a one-month suspension. Details of the ban were made public for the first time by the New Zealand Sport Integrity Commission.
The 34-year-old, who appeared in 28 Tests for New Zealand, tested positive following a domestic T20 game between Central Districts and Wellington in January, where he was awarded Player of the Match.
The original three-month suspension imposed by the Commission was shortened to one month, provided Bracewell completed a rehabilitation program. The one-month suspension was then backdated to April, allowing him to make his return to cricket.
"It was accepted that he had used the cocaine out of competition and for reasons unrelated to sport performance, Athletes have a responsibility to set a positive example. Their actions, both on and off the field, influence the next generation of athletes and it's essential that they act as role models by making healthy, responsible choices," the Commission said.
In IPL 2012, Doug Bracewell was the part of Delhi Daredevils (present Delhi Capitals). He played with both Virender Sehwag and David Warner.
