Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge to Debut with Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 for Superior Durability https://www.india.com/technology/samsung-galaxy-s25-edge-to-debut-with-corning-gorilla-glass-ceramic-2-for-superior-durability-7810331/ Fri, 09 May 2025 12:04:42 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=7810331 New Delhi – Samsung Electronics has partnered with Corning Incorporated to introduce the new Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S25 Edge, which the company says will be the slimmest Galaxy S series device to date.

The collaboration marks a significant leap in smartphone durability and design. The newly developed Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 combines advanced materials with a sleek, lightweight profile an essential feature for Samsung’s refined design ambitions.

“Galaxy S25 Edge will set a new standard for craftsmanship and performance,” said Kwangjin Bae, Executive Vice President and Head of the Mechanical R&D Team, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “To support this breakthrough design, it was essential to develop a display material that was both exceptionally thin and reliably strong – a challenge that brought Corning and Samsung together.”

The new glass features microscopic crystals embedded in a glass matrix, enhancing crack resistance and durability without compromising optical clarity. Corning’s signature ion exchange process further strengthens the material, improving resistance to damage and helping the glass maintain its structural integrity over time.

Andrew Beck, Vice President and General Manager of Corning Gorilla Glass, highlighted the significance of the development. “With Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, we’ve achieved a remarkable combination of thinness and strength, giving consumers the best of both worlds – exceptional durability in a modern, sleek and premium design.”

The Galaxy S25 Edge, which is expected to be officially unveiled in the coming months, represents a joint push by Samsung and Corning to deliver cutting-edge innovation and long-lasting performance in mobile devices.

Mercedes-Benz India Announces Two-Stage Price Hike Amid Forex Pressures https://www.india.com/car-and-bike/mercedes-benz-india-announces-two-stage-price-hike-amid-forex-pressures-7810019/ Fri, 09 May 2025 10:07:30 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=7810019 New Delhi — Mercedes-Benz India has announced a two-phase hike in the ex-showroom prices of its models, citing sharp fluctuations in foreign exchange rates as the primary driver behind the move. The luxury automaker will implement the price revision in two stages: the first effective from June 1, 2025, and a second increase of up to 1.5% on September 1, 2025.

According to the company, the decision was made to help customers plan their purchases more effectively and minimize the financial burden through flexible financing solutions offered by Mercedes-Benz Financial Services (MBFS). The phased revision comes as the Euro-INR exchange rate has depreciated by approximately 10% in the past four months, substantially raising the cost of imported components and Completely Built Units (CBUs).

“We have been absorbing the brunt of the forex impact so far, and increasing localization efforts. However, due to sustained operational cost pressures, we are now compelled to pass on a minimal portion of these increases to the market,” said Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India.

Despite the price hike, the company is assuring customers that monthly Equated Monthly Instalments (EMIs) will remain largely unaffected, thanks to innovative financing plans like STAR AGILITY and other flexible ownership programs. For example, EMI differences on popular models such as the GLA and GLC are expected to be under Rs 2,000.

The second phase of the price correction will see an additional increase of up to 1.5% across the model lineup starting September 1, 2025.

Mercedes-Benz emphasized that despite the price adjustments, its continued focus on localization and value-added services will ensure that luxury car buyers face only a minimal increase in ownership costs.

Exclusive: Tata.ev’s Next EV Leap with 64% Market Share – Vivek Srivatsa https://www.india.com/car-and-bike/exclusive-tata-evs-next-ev-leap-with-64-market-share-vivek-srivatsa-7794505/ Fri, 02 May 2025 13:07:31 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=7794505 New Delhi – Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. continues to lead India’s electric vehicle revolution, capturing a dominant 64% market share in FY24 with over 73,000 EVs sold. In FY25 so far, Tata.ev retains close to 60% share, cementing its position as the largest 4-wheeler EV manufacturer in the country. In this conversation, Mr. Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. highlights how the Nexon.ev kickstarted mass EV adoption. With over 2 lakh Tata EVs on the road, the company now gears up for the launch of the Harrier.ev in FY26. Tata.ev also plans to double India’s charging infrastructure to 400,000 points by 2027.

Question 1. What was TATA.ev’s volume and market share in the EV segment in FY24 and year-to-date FY25?

Answer. The largest 4-wheeler EV manufacturer in India, TATA.ev is the pioneer of India’s EV revolution and dominated the category in FY24, capturing a 64% market share with over 73,000 volumes. This strong performance has continued into FY25, where we currently hold close to 60% market share YTD.

Question 2.How has TATA.ev maintained its dominant market share since 2020?

Answer. TATA.ev introduced an EV to the mass market at a time when the technology was viewed as an expensive proposition. What essentially kickstarted the EV revolution in India – the Nexon.ev – single-handedly helped TATA.ev push the EV industry from a TIV of over 5,400 in FY 20 to 1.67 lakh as of FY 24. As the market leader, we have effectively built the EV ecosystem from scratch and set it up for everyone to reap the benefits. Right from building acceptance for the category amongst fence-sitters, to setting up the charging infrastructure, we have worked on the absolute basics to create and nurture the EV category for the benefit of the country’s future.

Our efforts across these years have helped us understand exactly what the modern Indian EV customer is looking for in their EV, our product portfolio – widest in the market – is spread across multiple price points, body styles, and battery options to cater to every customer archetype and their use case. Over 2 lakh Tata EVs on the road, logging over 5 bn KM place us in the perfect position to use their insights and create reliable EVs, focused on the Indian consumer. The success of our portfolio is testament to our effort in this space, and the excitement for products like the Harrier.ev and Sierra.ev only goes on to vindicate our position.

Question 3. What new EVs can we expect from the company in 2025?

Answer. As the leader of the India EV market, we’re committed to a portfolio of innovative and compelling EVs that resonate with the diverse use cases of discerning customers. We recently showcased the Harrier.ev at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, with its launch planned in FY26. The Harrier.ev is based on our advanced pure EV acti.ev+ architecture, whose every layer is enhanced with innovative technologies rarely seen in this segment. The soon to be launched EV SUV boasts a Quad Wheel Drive (QWD) Dual Motor setup, delivering an impressive 500 nm of torque for exhilarating performance across diverse terrains. We’re targeting a real-world range of around 500 km, addressing range anxiety and enabling customers to explore without limits. This will be followed by the increasingly awaited Sierra.ev, showed at the 2023 Auto Expo. Specific details on 2025 launches will be shared at the appropriate time.

Question 4. Apart from car launches, how will TATA.ev expand charging infrastructure?

Answer. TATA.ev is deeply committed to driving the growth of the EV market in India, with a crucial focus on overcoming the charging infrastructure challenge. With over 2 lakh Tata EVs on the road, we have collected data spanning over 5 bn KM of data – making it the largest data repository for a manufacturer, which helps us derive valuable insights and understand diverse customer use cases across India.

Moreover, we have been working closely with not only our customers but also key stakeholders such as Charge Point Operators (CPOs), Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), and other industry bodies. This approach allows us to go beyond the product and gain a comprehensive understanding of the challenges of the EV ecosystem. While the charging infrastructure continues to expand, we recognize that visibility, speed, and reliability remain critical concerns for potential EV users.

To address these challenges, we recently announced our effort to double India’s current charging infrastructure to over 400,000 charging points by 2027. A key driver of this ambition is the introduction of the TATA.ev MegaCharger Network. In collaboration with partners like Tata Power, Zeon, ChargeZone, and Statiq, we will be rolling out 500 co-branded chargers across the country to ensure enhanced accessibility for EV users, including a 25% discount on the charging tariff and priority access exclusively for TATA.ev customers. In addition to this, we will also be working with CPOs and OMCs to install over 30,000 chargers through our Open Collaboration framework.

Question 5. How do you plan to address after-sales support gaps?

Answer. After-sales is a continuous journey and we have been making significant improvements on this front. In terms of service, the pace at which our sales have increased is large and hence on the service side we are working on increasing our service capacity by augmenting bays, increasing productivity per bay, and more number of working hours/days. We have also introduced the TATA.ev exclusive service centers, with 6 of these outlets contributing to customer delight and more such touchpoints on their way. In addition to this, we are also working towards setting-up local warehouses to enhance ease of access for batteries to reduce the turnaround time when it comes to the rare times of the need for a battery replacement.

Question 6. Could you share details about TATA.ev’s upcoming EV lineup and its target buyers?

Answer. We’ve spoken about the fact that the Harrier.ev, shown at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in Delhi, is slated for launch in FY 2026. It’s built on our advanced pure EV acti.ev+ architecture, whose every layer is enhanced with innovative technologies rarely seen in this segment. The Harrier.ev boasts a Quad Wheel Drive (QWD) Dual Motor setup, delivering an impressive 500 nm of torque for exhilarating performance across diverse terrains. We’re targeting a real-world range of over 500 km, addressing range anxiety and enabling customers to explore without limits.

The Harrier.ev is designed to appeal to tech-savvy and environmentally conscious customers who appreciate both luxury and rugged capability. It perfectly balances refined comfort for passengers with powerful performance and precise handling for the driver. We envision it attracting a diverse customer base, from adventurers seeking off-road thrills to urban drivers looking for a sophisticated and capable SUV. We’re confident that its competitive pricing within the electric high-SUV segment will make it a compelling choice.

Question 7. How soon can we expect to see the Harrier.ev launched in India? Do you expect it to grow Tata’s EV market share and by how much?

Answer. The Harrier.ev will be launched in the market in the first half of FY 26 and will be competitively priced within the electric high-SUV segment, making it an attractive choice for a diverse customer base. Combining luxury with ruggedness, the Harrier.ev excels as both a refined traveler and a powerful performer, perfectly catering to adventurers and urban drivers alike. While the rear cabin offers passengers a serene, luxurious retreat, the driver is treated to raw power, precision handling, and an immersive driving experience—all in perfect harmony.

The Harrier.ev will take our plans of expanding the EV market forward, playing a key role in increasing visibility and credibility for electric mobility in the country as we inch towards higher penetration in overall 4-wheeler sales for the technology.

Lamborghini Temerario Launched in India at Rs 6 Crore https://www.india.com/car-and-bike/lamborghini-temerario-launched-in-india-at-rs-6-crore-7791160/ Thu, 01 May 2025 07:19:00 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=7791160 New Delhi – Lamborghini has officially launched the Temerario in India, priced at Rs 6 crore (ex-showroom, before options). Unveiled globally just nine months ago at the 2024 Monterey Car Week, the Temerario replaces the Huracan and brings an all-new plug-in hybrid powertrain to the brand’s line-up.

Under the hood is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 800hp and 730Nm of torque. It’s paired with three electric motors – a 150hp unit integrated with the 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and two 82hp motors on the front axle. Together, the hybrid system delivers a combined 920hp and 800Nm, making it Lamborghini’s most powerful V8-powered car to date. The company claims a 0-100kph time of just 2.7 seconds and a top speed of over 340kph.

Powering the electric motors is a 3.8kWh battery, which can be recharged via a 7kW AC port, through regenerative braking, or directly from the engine. The Temerario also debuts a Drift mode – a first for Lamborghini – alongside drive modes like Citta (fully electric), Strada, Sport, and Corsa.

Built on a lightweight aluminium spaceframe, the car weighs 1,715kg (dry), which can be reduced to 1,690kg with the Alleggerita package that includes carbon-fibre components. Lamborghini claims the new design is 103% more aerodynamically efficient than the Huracan Evo, and 158% with the optional aero kit.

The styling blends elements from the Huracan, Gallardo, and Revuelto, with sharp lines, hexagonal motifs, and staggered 20- and 21-inch wheels. Inside, the Temerario gets a jet-inspired cabin with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and a passenger-side 9.1-inch display. Comfort features include 18-way adjustable ventilated seats, onboard telemetry, AR navigation, and improved luggage space.

In India, the Temerario competes with the Ferrari 296 GTB (Rs 5.4 crore) and McLaren Artura (Rs 5.1 crore), positioning itself as the most expensive and powerful option among the trio.
