Here’s the TRUTH https://www.india.com/news/india/fact-check-are-atms-closed-for-two-days-due-to-ransomeware-cyber-attack-heres-the-truth-7809756/ Fri, 09 May 2025 07:54:51 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=7809756 Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan following India’s precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, fake news and misinformation are being spread with the sole aim of creating panic and fear among the Indian public. One such claim gaining traction is a viral WhatsApp message falsely stating that ATMs will be closed for 2–3 days.

However, the Fact Check Unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has debunked this fake news that was being circulated by several social media users. PIB has confirmed that there is no such directive and that ATMs will continue to operate as usual.

In a post on X(previously Twitter), PIB wrote,” Are ATMs closed⁉ A viral #WhatsApp message claims ATMs will be closed for 2–3 days.🛑 This Message is FAKE✅ ATMs will continue to operate as usual ❌ Don’t share unverified messages.”

Following the fact-check, the State Bank of India issued a statement confirming that all its ATMs, Cash Deposit Machines (CDMs), Automated Teller Machines (ADWMs), and digital services are fully operational and available for public use. The bank has also issued toll free number for its customers.

“All our ATMs, CDMs/ADWMs and digital services are fully operational and available for public use. Please do not rely on unverified information. For any queries, kindly reach out to your nearest branch or contact us on our toll-free numbers: 1800 1234, 1800 2100, 1800 11 2211, 1800 425 3800,” SBI stated.

Similar messages have been posted by Bank of Baroda, Punjab and Sindh Bank, Canara Bank and Bank of India. “All our digital services too are operating smoothly, ensuring a seamless banking experience from the comfort of your home,” Punjab National Bank said in a post on social media platform ‘X’.

Meanwhile, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will hold a review meeting on cybersecurity preparedness of banks and financial institutions in the evening, the ministry said, PTI reported.

The PIB’s fact-checking unit, early Friday morning, debunked a widely circulating video on social media claiming to show Pakistani attacks on Hazira Port in Gujarat and a drone attack in Jalandhar. The PIB said the Hazira Port video is an unrelated video “confirmed to depict an oil tanker explosion”. The footage captures an oil tanker explosion that occurred on July 7, 2021, and Pakistan is falsely propagating it as its attack on the port. PIB has even urged citizens not to share unverified messages.

Sirens have been activated across the area as a precautionary measure. In response, Deputy Commissioner Chandigarh has urged all residents to remain indoors and avoid standing on balconies or in open spaces for their safety.

“An Air warning has been received from the air force station of a possible attack. Sirens are being sounded. All are advised to remain indoors and away from balconies,” an official statement issued by the Chandigarh administration said.

The development comes amid escalating tension between India and Pakistan.

According to the defence ministry, the Pakistani military on Thursday night attempted to target Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bathinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai and Bhuj. The renewed attempts by the Pakistani forces came after the Indian armed forces on Wednesday carried out precise missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan under ‘Operation Sindoor’ in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

Fact Check: Multiple Explosions at Jammu Air Force Base? In a post on X, the Fact Check Unit stated that an old image is being circulated with false claims of multiple explosions at the Jammu Air Force Base in India. Furthermore, it stated that the image is from the Kabul Airport blast in August 2021.

The Fact Check unit in a post on X shared, “Explosion at Jammu Air Force Base? Here’s the truth! An old image is being circulated with false claims of multiple explosions at the Jammu Air Force Base in India. #PIBFactCheck This image is from the Kabul Airport blast in August 2021. Here’s a report from that time: https://al-ain.com/article/1630002029 Don’t fall for misinformation. Always verify before sharing!.”

Amid the escalated tensions between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of India’s precision strikes on terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, detrimental elements from Pakistan have been trying to deliberately sabotage the narrative from the ground reality by spreading misinformation with a sole objective to instil fear among the Indian masses.

Following India’s retaliation during Operation Sindoor against the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, intense misinformation campaigns were launched by Pakistan-based social media handles, which had been actively and successfully debunked by the Fact Check of the Press Information Bureau (PIB).

The PIB’s fact-check unit debunked seven instances between late Wednesday night and early Friday morning that showed the Pakistani side fabricating a narrative in their support.

The PIB Fact Check’s efforts in debunking fake news and busting myths have been crucial in maintaining public trust and countering attempts to destabilise the nation through misinformation during such times.

Fact Check: Has Hazira Port in Gujarat been attacked? PIB debunks viral video claim, says… https://www.india.com/news/india/fact-check-has-hazira-port-in-gujarat-been-attacked-pib-debunks-viral-video-claim-says-7809028/ Fri, 09 May 2025 02:15:33 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=7809028 A widely circulated video on the social media platform X, allegedly showing an attack on Hazira Port in Gujarat, has been debunked by the Press Information Bureau (PIB). PIB confirmed that the footage is actually from July 7, 2021.

The official PIB Fact Check handle clarified that the viral video claiming an attack on Hazira Port in Gujarat is misleading. According to the statement, the footage actually shows an oil tanker explosion from July 7, 2021, and is unrelated to the current situation. Citizens were urged not to share the video.

In a post shared on X(previously Twitter), the official PIB Fact Check handle wrote, “This video is widely circulating on social media with a claim that Hazira Port in Gujarat has been attacked. This is an unrelated video confirmed to depict an oil tanker explosion. The video is dated July 7, 2021. Do not share this video.”

The video, which gained traction on social media after being reposted by several unauthenticated accounts, falsely claimed that Hazira Port in Gujarat had been attacked. However, the misleading content was promptly flagged by the Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) fact-checking team, which is actively monitoring online narratives related to the conflict.

As ‘Operation Sindoor’ continues to unfold further with Indian Air Force strikes against Pakistan’s air defence system, the PIB and the Indian Armed Forces continue to stress the importance of verified information. The public is being encouraged to report suspicious content to the relevant authorities.

‘Fundamentally none Of our business’, says US on India-Pakistan War https://www.india.com/news/world/fundamentally-none-of-our-business-says-us-vice-president-j-d-vance-on-india-pakistan-war-7808889/ Fri, 09 May 2025 01:11:45 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=7808889 Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the US has stated that it is not going to get involved in a war that’s “fundamentally none of our business”, PTI reported. While the US cannot control India and Pakistan, it can encourage the two nuclear-armed neighbours to de-escalate, Vice President J D Vance said in a TV interview on Thursday.

When asked about the Trump administration’s concern over a potential nuclear war between India and Pakistan, Vance said, “Look, we’re concerned about any time nuclear powers collide and have a major conflict.”

Vance quoted US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio who have said that Washington wants the tensions to “de-escalate” as quickly as possible. Vice President stated,”We can’t control these countries though. Fundamentally, India has its gripes with Pakistan. Pakistan has responded to India. What we can do is try to encourage these folks to de-escalate a little bit. But we’re not going to get involved in the middle of war that’s fundamentally none of our business and has nothing to do with America’s ability to control it.”

“America can’t tell the Indians to lay down their arms. We can’t tell the Pakistanis to lay down their arms. And so we’re going to continue to pursue this thing through diplomatic channels. Our hope and our expectation is that this is not going to spiral into a broader regional war or, God forbid, a nuclear conflict, but sure, we’re worried about these things.

Later he added, “But I think the job of diplomacy, but also the job of cooler heads in India and Pakistan is to make sure this doesn’t become a nuclear war. If it happened of course it would be disastrous. Right now we don’t think that’s going to happen.”

Vance, accompanied by Second Lady Usha Vance and their three children on their first official visit to India, was in the country when terrorists killed 26 people—mostly tourists—in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22.

On Thursday night, India neutralised Pakistan military’s attempt to hit military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur and some other locations with missiles and drones as tensions soared between the two countries amid fears of a wider military conflict.

After the Indian military foiled the Pakistani attempts, the defence ministry said India remains “fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its people”.

Earlier on Thursday, Secretary of State Rubio spoke separately with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, emphasising the need for immediate de-escalation. In his call with Jaishankar, Rubio expressed US support for direct dialogue between India and Pakistan and encouraged continued efforts to improve communications.

He reiterated his condolences for the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam and reaffirmed the US’ commitment to work with India in the fight against terrorism. In his conversation with Sharif, Rubio reiterated his calls for Pakistan to take concrete steps to end any support for terrorist groups.

India-Pakistan tensions: Air India, IndiGo, Akasa Air, Spicejet issues advisory for passengers, Check-in closes…. https://www.india.com/news/india/india-pakistan-tensions-air-india-issues-advisory-for-passengers-check-in-closes-75-mins-before-departure-7808423/ Thu, 08 May 2025 17:42:07 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=7808423 Amid rising tensions with Pakistan, Air India on Thursday has informed passengers that check-in counters will now close 75 minutes before departure, in line with enhanced airport security directives issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security. The airline has urged travelers across India to arrive at airports at least three hours in advance to ensure timely check-in and boarding.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) banned entry of visitors to the terminal building of airports and also made secondary ladder point checking compulsory for all flights as part of enhanced security arrangements. The detailed advisory comes at a time when tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated.

BCAS said in an advisory, “In view of the recent attack in Pahalgam and subsequent surcharged security scenario, it is necessary to enhance security measures at all the civil aviation installations like airports, airstrips, airfields, air force stations, helipads, flying schools, aviation training institutes… so that no untoward incident takes place in the country.”

As part of stepping up security arrangements, the agency has made Secondary Ladder Point Checking (SLPC) compulsory for all flights at all airports. Generally, it refers to checking passengers and their hand baggage just before boarding a flight. This is in addition to the primary security checks.

Besides, the entry of visitors to the terminal building of the airports and sale of visitor entry tickets has been banned. Ensuring 100 per cent serviceability of all CCTVs at airports and “deployment of in-flight security officers in flights based on prioritisation/randomisation” are among the other directions. BCAS has suggested enhanced security measures and surveillance at city side of airports in coordination with local police.

Among other measures, the aviation security watchdog has called for thorough scrutiny of PNR (Passenger Name Record), passenger and cargo manifest as well as full search of aircraft and catering services of planes. The directions include enhanced security measures and surveillance at cargo and general aviation terminals. BCAS has also said that all stakeholders concerned should enhance vigilance for shipments originating from areas deemed high risk and consider applying multiple screening methods.

In addition, Akasa Air has issued a travel advisory urging passengers to arrive at airports at least three hours before departure due to heightened security protocols across India. In a tweet, the airline stated that travelers must carry valid government-approved photo ID for airport entry. Passengers will be allowed only one cabin bag weighing up to 7 kg, in addition to their checked luggage. In line with regulatory directives, all flyers will undergo secondary security screening before boarding.

This advisory follows escalating cross-border hostilities, as Pakistan targeted Jammu with loitering munitions on Thursday.

In a post on X, IndiGo said that in these extraordinary times, heightened security measures are taken up across all airports.

“We request you to allow some extra time for your journey to accommodate security checks and formalities,” it added. Spicejet added, “In light of enhanced security measures across all airports, passengers are advised to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours prior to departure to ensure a smooth check-in and boarding process.”

Blackout has also been enforced in Akhnoor of Jammu Division and sirens are being heard. A complete blackout has been enforced in Jammu. India had responded to the Pahalgam terror attack through Operation Sindoor in which terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and PoJK was targeted through precision strikes. India also said that any attack on military installations will invite a suitable response.

Tension between the two neighbours soared after the Indian armed forces conducted precision strikes early on Wednesday in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), targeting terror launchpads in response to the attack by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s tourist spot Pahalgam killing 26 civilians in cold blood on April 22.

India-Pakistan tensions bring Baba Vanga’s 2025 war prediction back into focus, it was about….,humanity to… https://www.india.com/viral/india-pakistan-tensions-bring-baba-vangas-2025-war-prediction-back-into-focus-it-was-about-humanity-to-7807616/ Thu, 08 May 2025 13:16:40 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=7807616 Baba Vanga is widely regarded as one of the most intriguing mystics of the 20th century. Vanga’s predictions have been regarded as strikingly accurate by several followers. She spoke about a wide range of topics, including natural disasters, the rise and fall of communism, and major political events. Her followers frequently viewed her as a true prophet, drawing comparisons between her and Nostradamus, the renowned French seer from the 1500s. Due to the seeming accuracy of her visions and their alignment with real-world events, she was often referred to as the “Nostradamus of the Balkans.”

India-Pakistan tensions bring Baba Vanga’s 2025 war prediction back into focus, it was about….,humanity to…

As per a report by the New York Post, Baba Vanga, the blind Bulgarian mystic, predicted that 2025 would mark the beginning of a devastating war in Europe, which she believed would lead to the “downfall of humanity.” It is also reported that Vanga predicted the world would officially end in 5079. While she did not specify the countries involved, her prediction has gained attention amid growing unrest in several regions, including the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. Her prediction, made several years ago, is being revisited as global headlines increasingly reflect a world marked by instability and growing tensions.

In addition, Baba Vanga foresaw a global economic collapse in 2025, with financial systems around the world descending into chaos. This warning gained renewed attention following former US President Donald Trump’s announcement of significant tariffs on April 9, as seen in his post on Truth Social.

Sharing a post, Trump wrote,”NOBODY is getting ‘off the hook’ for the unfair Trade Balances, and Non-Monetary Tariff Barriers, that other countries have used against us, especially not China, which, by far, treats us the worst!”

According to The Daily Mirror, tariffs have now surged between 10% and 50% for multiple countries, with China hit by an unprecedented 145% duty. Alongside her prediction of a major war, Baba Vanga also foresaw powerful and devastating earthquakes occurring in 2025. One of these predictions appears to have partially come true. On March 28, a massive 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, resulting in over 1,700 fatalities.

India-Pakistan war: Punjab on high-alert, complete blackout in the Gurdaspur district till… https://www.india.com/news/india/india-pakistan-war-punjab-on-high-alert-complete-blackout-in-the-gurdaspur-district-till-further-orders-7807501/ Thu, 08 May 2025 12:01:03 +0000 https://www.india.com/?p=7807501 Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated sharply over the past two weeks, following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025. In retaliation, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of Wednesday, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK). This military operation came in response to the attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including one Nepali national.

The Government of India, along with the Punjab Government, has issued directives under the Civil Defence Act, 1968, mandating a complete blackout in the Gurdaspur district from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM. According to the news agency ANI report, the measure, effective from May 8, 2025, will remain in place until further notice.

“Due to a sensitive environment on the Indo-Pak border, guidelines of the Government of India and the Government of Punjab. According to this, further orders will be issued from 08.05.2025 to deal with the emergency situation under the Civil Defense Act 1968. From 9.00 pm to 5.00 am the next day, there will be complete “black out” in district Gurdaspur. This order will not be applicable in Central Jail Gurdaspur and hospitals. Though, the windows of Gurdaspur jail and hospitals will be closed every day from 9.00 pm to 5.00 am the next day,” reads the statement.

The measure has been implemented in response to the sensitive situation along the Indo-Pakistan border and is designed to address any potential emergency scenarios that may arise.

Blackout Order Exempts…

  • The blackout order exempts Central Jail Gurdaspur and hospitals. However, these institutions must keep their windows closed and securely covered during the specified hours to ensure no light escapes.

After India executed Operation Sindoor, in which nine terror sites deep inside Pakistan were destroyed, Pakistan attempted to engage a number of military targets on the night of May 7. The military targets were engaged in Northern and Western India, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj, using drones and missiles.

These were neutralised by the Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems. The debris of these attacks is now being recovered from a number of locations that prove the Pakistani attacks. Indian Air Force S-400 Sudarshan Chakra air defence missile systems were fired on Wednesday night against targets moving towards India. The targets were successfully neutralised in the operation, multiple domain experts told ANI. An official Government confirmation is awaited. On Thursday morning, the Indian Armed Forces targeted Air Defence Radars and systems at several locations in Pakistan. The Indian response has been in the same domain with the same intensity as Pakistan’s. It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised.
