In a significant market update coming from the United States amid the US tariffs on various countries including China and Europe, reports have it that TikTok has laid off several employees in the US. In its recent layoff, the Chinese company has implemented the layoffs in its e-commerce governance and experienced team. Here are all the details you need to know.

Notably, the ByteDance-owned short video platform is already struggling due to the US tariffs on China in the United States and has now laid off its employees who failed to meet performance expectations last year.

Media reports have also indicated that the China-based ByteDance, is grappling with mounting challenges in maintaining its U.S. operations, particularly as new legislation pushes for the platform to be sold to non-Chinese owners.

Trump extends deadline on Tiktok ban

In another major development on TikTok, US President Donald Trump has said that his administration had been working on a deal to “save TikTok” and said that he would be signing an executive order to keep the app operational for an additional 75 days, as per a report by news agency ANI.

Sharing a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote, “My administration has been working very hard on a deal to SAVE TIKTOK, and we have made tremendous progress. The deal requires more work to ensure all necessary approvals are signed, which is why I am signing an Executive Order to keep TikTok up and running for an additional 75 days.”

Trump further expressed hope that discussions with China would continue in “good faith,” acknowledging that China was displeased with the US reciprocal tariffs. He defended these tariffs as essential for ensuring fair and balanced trade between the two countries. Trump emphasised that the goal was to prevent TikTok from “going dark.”
