Sudha Murty and Narayana Murthy’s love story is a tale of love, mutual respect, and shared ambitions. Sudha and Narayana Murthy’s relationship is unique due to its simplicity and depth. From their initial meeting in 1974 to building Infosys and raising a family, their journey together shows the power of trust, understanding, and support.

Sudha Murty, Narayana Murthy’s Love Story

They met through a mutual friend, Prasanna, who often gave Sudha books which had Murthy’s name with locations like Istanbul and Peshawar. This led Sudha to imagine Murthy as an adventurous person or an international bus conductor!

However, when they met in person, her expectations didn’t match his personality. Sudha Murthy recalled it and said “I thought he’d look like a film hero, dashing and handsome, but when he opened the door, I thought, who is this person, this little kid?” Despite this initial impression, Murthy’s sincerity and intellect had a good impression on her.

Narayana Murthy once invited Sudha and their friends to dinner, but she initially declined, being the only woman in the group. He still convinced her to meet him at Pune’s Green Fields Hotel, where their bond started taking shape.

Sudha And Murthy’s Opposite Personalities 

Sudha and Murthy’s personalities were different. Sudha Murty, was an extrovert person who loved interacting with people. Whereas the opposite to her Narayana Murthy, was a reserved individual who preferred speaking only a few sentences. Sudha once shares their initial conversations, wherein she would ask him about his quiet nature, to which Murthy would reply, “You speak for both of us, so I have nothing left to say.”

Despite having contrasting natures their relationship was strengthened during this period. Their differences complement one another, making them an ideal match.

Sudha Murthy Family On Marriage

Sudha’s family was from a traditional and well-off  background and they were concerned about Murthy’s financial stability. However, Sudha looked beyond material concerns, and was impressed by Murthy’s honesty and ambition. “I wanted to marry Murthy because he is an honest man,” she once said.

Before leaving for a project in the U.S., Murthy proposed to Sudha. The couple married on February 10, 1978, in a simple ceremony at Murthy’s Bangalore home, attended by close friends and family.

Building Infosys Together

Sudha played a pivotal role in the creation of Infosys. She supported Murthy’s vision and invested her savings of Rs10000 to help the company during the foundation period. While Murthy focused on building the business, Sudha ensured looked after kids and other family  responsibilities. 

The couple raised two children, Rohan Murty and Akshata Murty. Akshata is married to Rishi Sunak, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

An Enduring Love Story

Over 45 years of marriage, Sudha and Narayana Murthy’s story has become a beacon of inspiration. It is a reminder that love isn’t about grand gestures but about standing together through life’s ups and downs. Their unwavering support for one another, combined with their shared values, has made their journey nothing short of a modern fairytale.
