Dhaka: Bankrupt Bangladesh, grappling with an unstable economy and internal conflicts, has raised concerns over the actions of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) against illegal infiltrators and smugglers along the border. On Saturday, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said that further incidents would prompt a strict response. The Yunus government in Bangladesh, who has been accused of protecting those who have unleashed inhuman brutalities against the minorities in the country, has asked India to stop its actions at the borders.

BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui said, “We have made it clear that such incidents are unacceptable and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances. If this continues, it will raise serious questions about how we handle illegal Indian infiltrations into Bangladesh.”

While speaking at the flag-hoisting ceremony in Cox’s Bazar, Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui further added that killings should never be a solution to border issues. He said, “We will continue to oppose such incidents, and if any more killings occur, we will take an even stricter stance.” His remarks came a day after Bangladeshi citizen Mohammad Al-Amin was killed during an infiltration attempt by the BSF on Friday.

Tension escalates at the India-Bangladesh border

As per the reports, on Friday at around 7:30 PM, the BSF noticed movement near the India-Bangladesh border. When the BSF attempted to stop the individuals, they tried to forcibly enter Indian territory and attempted to attack the BSF. In response, the BSF fired rubber bullets. Bangladesh alleges that Al Amin was injured by the rubber bullets and succumbed to his injuries around 9:00 PM.

Bangladeshi Smugglers Attack BSF

Bangladesh Border Guard’s Major General Siddiqui stated that 15-20 individuals were involved in the clash while attempting to cross the border illegally. He said, “After BSF intervened, a confrontation ensued, and BSF fired rubber bullets, one of which hit Al-Amin in a vulnerable spot, leading to his death.” He further mentioned that during this incident, a BSF soldier was also injured in attacks by illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators.

Speaking as the chief guest at the program, Home Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury called for strengthening the capacity of the BGB to ensure border security. The Home Advisor said, “Today, we have added three more units to the 64 BGB Battalion, increasing our capacity. However, we need to further enhance our border security measures.”
