Bangladesh News: Bankrupt Bangladesh has been reeling under serious economic and external threats ever since Sheikh Hasina was forced to resign as the prime minister of the country. The Muhammad Yunus-led Bangladesh government has been accused of protecting radical groups who have wreaked havoc on the minorities in the country. Now, Bangladeshi writer and activist Taslima Nasreen has strongly criticized the interim government and stated that the country is now under the control of the extremist Jamaat-e-Islami. Speaking to news agency ANI, Nasreen said, “I believe that the country is now in the hands of Jamaat-e-Islami jihadist and extremist groups, and they are destroying Bangladesh’s history. They have demolished all statues of freedom fighters, destroyed the museum of the 1971 Liberation War, and also demolished the house of the Father of the Nation, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”
Taslima Nasrin said, “The people associated with the Awami League party have either been imprisoned or killed.” The writer further stated, “The interim government in Bangladesh is illegal, and elections should be held soon so that the right party can come to power and govern the country democratically. The country is not only facing violence against women but also theft, robbery, terrorism, rape, and murder. This means that law enforcement agencies are doing nothing. That is why I believe elections should be held soon, and whichever political party comes to power should be given the authority to govern. It is good for them to run the country because this government is illegal and has no right to govern.”
Accusing the Yunus administration of working with extremist elements, Nasreen said that the current interim government itself includes extremist elements, which is why idols are being destroyed under their rule, and the country’s minority Hindus and free thinkers are being persecuted.
“I have been thinking about Bangladesh for the past six months,” she said. Nasreen also stated that Jamaat-e-Islami should be banned again because they do not believe in democracy and allegedly want to impose Sharia law.
Taslima Nasreen said, “I believe that all political parties that supported the Liberation War should be elected, they should participate in the elections, and they should govern the country—not the people of Jamaat-e-Islami, who are against the Liberation War. They are supporters of Pakistan and opponents of India.”
Nasreen further stated, “Muslims go to the Kaaba, Christians go to Jerusalem, and Hindus go to the Maha Kumbh. I believe in secularism, so I think every individual has the right to follow their religion. Personally, I do not practice any religion, but I believe in the right of others to follow their faith.”
