Pahalgam terror attack: Terrorists opened fire at a popular tourist spot near Pahalgam town on Tuesday afternoon, killing 26 people, mostly holidayers from other states, in what is the deadliest attack in the Valley since the Pulwama strike in 2019.

Pahalgam terror attack: First images of the terrorists, involved in the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam which claimed 26 lives, have surfaced. The men are Asif Fauji, Suleman Shah and Abu Talha, officials said. The three terrorists also had code names — Moosa, Yunus and Asif — and were involved in terror related incidents in Poonch. The sketches were prepared with the help of survivors, they said. The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow outfit of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terror group, claimed responsibility for the attack on Tuesday afternoon.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday joined the probe and reached the terror site at Pahalgam. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday early morning after concluding his visit to Saudi Arabia. PM Modi was on a two-day State visit to Saudi Arabia at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

However, he cut short his visit following the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam which claimed 26 lives. PM Modi skipped the official dinner hosted by Saudi Arabia and decided to cut short his visit, according to government sources.

Meanwhile, the traders and transporters have called for total shutdown in the Valley.

On Pahalgam terror attack, Ambassador of Israel to India, Reuven Azar said, “…I’m sure that the Indian government and the authorities here have much better intelligence about the situation in the trans-border area and how to deal with this issue. As I said, we are going to concentrate on cooperation when it comes to methodology, when it comes to technology, when it comes to intelligence, and this is a very important work that we will continue doing.”

Navy Chief Admiral Tripathi pays tribute to Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, killed in Pahalgam attack

Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi on Wednesday laid a wreath at the mortal remains of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. Lieutenant Narwal was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. His mortal remains will be taken to Karnal, Haryana.

Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh tweets, “We have set up an emergency desk at Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in Delhi for the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. The government has made all arrangements to bring the victims safely to the state. If you need any help, call 9818395787.”

Cities on high alert

Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, and Amritsar have been placed on high alert in response to what officials are calling the deadliest terror strike in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama attack. The attack, which occurred in a high-altitude area accessible only by trek or horseback, has triggered massive security checks, particularly as the United States Vice President JD Vance is currently in India on a four-day official visit. Vance had been in Delhi and was expected to travel to other cities during his stay. Security agencies have since ramped up monitoring across the national capital and beyond, concerned about the implications of an attack of this magnitude during a high-level international visit.

Trump dials PM Modi

US President Donald Trump strongly condemned the terror attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam in a phone call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed full support to India to bring to justice the perpetrators of the “heinous attack”.

“President Donald Trump @realDonaldTrump @POTUS called PM @narendramodi and conveyed his deepest condolences at the loss of innocent lives in the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir,” Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X.

Trump “strongly condemned the terror attack and expressed full support to India to bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous attack. India and the United States stand together in the fight against terror,” Jaiswal said.

Earlier in a post on Truth Social, Trump condoled the terror attacks in Kashmir, saying the US stands strong with India against terrorism.

“Deeply disturbing news out of Kashmir. The United States stands strong with India against Terrorism. We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Modi, and the incredible people of India, have our full support and deepest sympathies. Our hearts are with you all!” Trump said in the post on Truth Social.

US Vice President J D Vance, who is in India with his wife Second Lady Usha Vance and their children, also extended condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam. “Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn this horrific attack.”

Rahul Gandhi speaks with HM Shah

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said he had spoken with Home Minister Amit Shah, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Congress’ J&K unit president Tariq Karra about the horrific Pahalgam terror attack to get an update on the situation.

“Spoke with HM Amit Shah, J&K CM Omar Abdullah, and J&K PCC President Tariq Karra about the horrific Pahalgam terror attack. Received an update on the situation,” the former Congress chief, who is on a US visit, said in a post on X. The families of victims deserve justice and our fullest support, he said.
