Pakistan resorts to heavy shelling across LoC as Indian Army thwarts drone, missile attacks

New Delhi: India successfully thwarted Pakistani drone and missile attacks that attempted to target several military bases, including Jammu and Pathankot, on Thursday night. The Indian Armed Forces also foiled a similar bid at 15 places in the northern and western regions last night as tensions further escalated between the two countries following Operation Sindoor. The Defence Ministry took to X and informed that several military stations in northern Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur near border areas were targeted but were neutralised successfully.
"The threats were swiftly neutralised using kinetic and non-kinetic capabilities," the ministry said, adding that no casualties were reported.

Early Friday morning, Pakistan initiated intense shelling along the Line of Control in several areas of Jammu and Kashmir, including Poonch, Rajouri, Uri, and Chowkibal, Kupwara. This shelling resulted in property damage in Uri and Chowkibal Kupwara, and one fatality was reported in Uri.
It is noteworthy that, Pak Army has been shelling along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir since the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. The heinous terrorist attack claimed 26 lives of tourists.
J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah left for Jammu on Friday morning to take stock of the situation after failed drone attack by Pakistan on Thursday night.
India-Pakistan conflict: 8 Updates
- Pakistan resorted to intense shelling along LoC and international border in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat after Indian armed forces destroyed Pakistani air defence systems at multiple cities, including in Lahore.
- Blackouts enforced in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Rajasthan as Pakistani drones were sighted from across the border.
- Indian air defence system successfully intercepted eight Pak missiles towards the border areas of Jammu on Thursday evening. These missiles were aimed at major locations including - Satwari (Jammu Airport), Samba, RS Pura, and Arnia.
- Loud explosions were reported in Jaisalmer, followed by a power outage affecting western Rajasthan districts near the Pakistan border.
- On Thursday, India foiled Pakistan military's attempts to target military bases in 15 cities in the northern and western parts using missiles and drones.
- During separate meetings, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged both Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to de-escalate tensions. Rubio also pressed Pakistan to actively cease support for terrorist organizations. Minister Jaishankar assured Rubio that India would resolutely respond to any Pakistani escalation.
- President Trump urged India and Pakistan to cease their retaliatory actions, offering his assistance if needed.
- On Thursday, defence minister Rajnath Singh reportedly said in an all-party meeting that Indian strikes killed at least 100 terrorists and their associates.
