At an age where most teenagers are navigating through their college life and having fun, imagine a teenager who speaks dozens of languages fluently and understands the grammar of hundreds more. He is not scientist or professor with decades of research behind him—he’s just 19, but his brain is like a supercomputer for languages. From decoding ancient texts to typing in rare languages, his skills have amazed experts and shattered records across the globe.

Not only this, he has also travelled internationally He has traveled internationally to teach, inspired students globally, and has even set multiple world records before the age of 10. His journey began in early childhood, influenced by a unique upbringing filled with alphabets, languages, and cultural curiosity. Today, he continues to pursue multiple degrees while speaking and writing in languages most of us have never even heard of.

Curious to know who we’re talking about?

Meet Mahmood Akram, a Chennai, India teen who is a language genius. Akram is fluent in 46 languages and reads, writes, and types over 400. Raised by a linguist father, Shilbee Mozhippriyan, who speaks 16 languages himself, Akram was introduced to different scripts and dialects from an early age.

His parents began to teach him Tamil and English alphabets at the age of four, and he had already learned English in six daysBy the age of six, he had learned more than his father knew of old Tamil scripts like Vatteluttu, Grantha, and Tamizhi. His learning capacity made him approach websites like Omniglot and books and allowed him to learn 50 languages at the age of eight.

Akram’s ability did not remain hidden for long. When he was eight years old, he set his first world record as the youngest bilingual typewriter in the world, typing on a range of languages in a video posted on the internetWhen he was ten, he typed the Indian national anthem in 20 languages within an hour—winning him his second world record and the German Young Talent Award.

With a victory at a talent show, he won a scholarship to study at Danube International School in Vienna, Austria. Akram is now finishing several study programsincluding a bachelor’s degree in animation from Alagappa University in Chennai and a bachelor’s degree in English literature and linguistics from the Open University in the UK.

Among the scores of languages that he has acquired, Tamil is the dearest to his heart. “It’s my mother tongue and closest to my heart,” he adds.

Mahmood Akram’s story is a shining example of how dedication, passion, and encouragement at an early age can lead to wondersWith his ongoing learning and empowerment, he pushes the limits of language learning to new horizons and shows the world that age should not be a consideration if the hunger for learning is real.
