Tata Motors Files Record Number of Patents and Designs in FY25

In FY25, Tata Motors filed 250 patents and 148 design applications, marking its highest number of filings in a single financial year. These filings cover a wide range of innovations across both product and process domains. The areas of focus include automotive megatrends such as Connectivity, Electrification, Sustainability, and Safety (CESS), as well as emerging technologies like hydrogen-based vehicles and fuel cell systems.

The filings also span multiple vehicle systems, including battery, powertrain, suspension, body and trim, brakes, HVAC, and emission control technologies. Alongside patents and design registrations, the company filed 81 copyright applications. During the same period, Tata Motors was granted 68 patents, bringing its total number of granted patents to 918.

In addition to its intellectual property activities, the company received five awards related to its work in intellectual property rights during FY25, both from Indian and international organizations.

Rajendra Petkar, President and Chief Technology Officer at Tata Motors, stated that the company’s innovation strategy is aimed at addressing shifts in the automotive industry while providing long-term value. He noted that the company is focusing on the development of technologies to meet changing customer and industry requirements, with particular attention to sustainability, safety, and efficiency.

Tata Motors continues to expand its portfolio in line with technological developments and regulatory demands. The company’s efforts in intellectual property are part of its broader strategy to adapt to changes in mobility and contribute to evolving transportation needs.
