Several actors with successful debuts stepped away from the world of glitz and glam after a series of flops. Here is one such actress, who left Bollywood following a brief and unsuccessful career. Sister of Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty, we are talking about none other than Shamita Shetty.
Before venturing into films, Shamita pursued fashion designing diploma at SNDT College, Mumbai. Following this, she interned with renowned designer Manish Malhotra, who noticed her potential and encouraged her to consider acting. In 2001, Shamita made her debut with Mohabbatein, alongside Uday Chopra, Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Jimmy Shergill. The film went on to become blockbuster and Shamita earned widespread praise for her performance.
She then made a special appearance in the hit fil Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, where she gained popularity for her dance number Sharara Sharara. However, following that, her couple of films, Agnipankh, Anjana, Wajahh: A Reason to Kill, Fareb, Zeher, Bewafa and Cash failed to impress audience and critics. In 2008, she appeared in a special role in Hari Puttar: A Comedy of Terrors, after which she decided to step away from Bollywood.
The actress then decided to pursue her passion for interior designing. She earned diploma in the same field from Central Saint Martins and Inchbald School of Design in London. Following this, she launched her own interior design company, Golden Leaf Interiors. Her first solo project was designing Royalty, a club in Mumbai.
Shamita later ventured into television, participating in reality shows like Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, Khatron Ke Khiladi and Bigg Boss. Despite being away from films, the actress enjoys a lavish lifestyle and reportedly owns Rs 40 crore.
