Muslim population to surge in Canada, United States

According to a study by the Pew Research Center, the population of Muslims in Canada will triple in number by 2030, surging from 940,000 in 2010, to 2.7 million, making Muslims around 6.6 percent of the country’s total population.

Similarly, the United States will also witness a rapid increase in its Muslim population, with number of Muslim children aged 0-4 in the US expected to exceed 650,000, up from 200,000 in 2010, the study revealed.

Hindu population in India

As per the study, India and Nepal will continue remain Hindu-majority nations in the foreseeable future. Hindus formed 80 percent of India’s population in 2010, and will continue be the majority by year 2050, accounting for 77 percent of the country’s population.

Additionally, by 2050, India’s population will remain 18 percent of the world’s total population, leaving Hinduism’s global share at 15 percent, the study predicted, adding that the global population of Hindus will increase from 1 billion to 1.4 billion in the next 25 years, which is at par with the global trend.

Major demographic change on the horizon by 2050

As per the Pew Research study, Islam is currently fastest growing religion in the world at present, and this trend will continue its upward rise, resulting in Muslims becoming the world’s largest religious group by the year 2060. The study notes three major reasons for the surge in dominance of Muslims– young population, high fertility rate, and the practice of religious conversion.

According to the study, the global population is expected to increase by around 32 percent by 2060, while the Muslim population is expected to surge by up to 70 percent, more than double the global average.

The study has predicted that Islam will replace Christianity as the world’s largest largest and the global Muslim population will surge by a whopping 70 percent in the next 35 years, breaching the 3 billion mark by the year 2060.
