Muslim Population: The global Muslim population is expected to increase by approximately 25 percent over the next two decades. The new research study by the ‘American Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life’ reveals that if current trends continue, Muslims will make up 26.4 percent of the world’s estimated 8.3 billion population in 2030, up from 23.4 percent of the estimated 6.9 billion world population in 2010.
This is the second time Pew has conducted a study on the global Muslim population. The data is highly detailed, showing population figures by country and the percentage of Muslims within each country’s population.
From 1990 to 2010, the global Muslim population grew at an average annual rate of 2.2 percent, while the projected rate for 2010 to 2030 is 1.5 percent.
The Pew Research Center study further reveals that the Muslim population in Canada is expected to triple by 2030, increasing from 940,000 in 2010 to 2.7 million, making up approximately 6.6 percent of the country’s total population.
In New Zealand, a 146% increase has been projected. The population, which was reported to be 41,000, is expected to rise to one million, growing from 0.9 percent to 2 percent of the total population.
