In the early hours of Wednesday, around 1:44 AM, the Indian armed forces launched missile strikes on nine terror bases located in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). This was a strong answer to a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Anantnag (Jammu & Kashmir), which killed 26 people. Out of the nine terror sites attacked: Four were inside Pakistan and five were in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). These locations are believed to be hideouts or camps of terrorist groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, known for attacking India in the past.
Following the attack, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif responded strongly. He said the missile strikes were an act of war and warned that Pakistan has the full right to strike back. He added that the people and the military of Pakistan are ready to defend the country and will not let any enemy succeed.
The Indian government had already planned a national civil defence drill across 244 districts to prepare for any hostile action. Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised that the attackers and those behind them will be punished severely, no matter where they are. He said they would be tracked to the ends of the earth and punished beyond their imagination.
