Released in 1987, the film starred Anil Kapoor and Sridevi in lead roles. The movie also featured Satish Kaushik and Amrish Puri in supporting roles. It was directed by Shekhar Kapur and produced by Boney Kapoor and Surinder Kapoor. It emerged as a commercial success and became the second highest-grossing film of the year at the Indian box office. Made in Rs 2 crore, the movie earned Rs 10 crore. It was also an overseas hit in China.

The story of this 2-hour 59-minute film revolves around a magical watch where Anil Kapoor plays the role of Arun Verma, while Sridevi portrays journalist Seema Soni. Amish is the film’s villain, who is determined to get his hands on the watch to exploit its powers. In the story, Sridevi’s character moves into Arun’s house as a tenant and gradually falls in love with him.

By now, you must have guessed the movie is Mr India. It was a breakthrough for its director and cast members and became a milestone in Hindi cinema for its rarely filmed superhero genre, which was followed by several Indian films in later years.

It was remade in Tamil as En Rathathin Rathame (1989) and Kannada as Jai Karnataka (1989).
