During a recent interview with Sky News Australia, India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, was asked by journalist.. if India recognized the “angst” Australia felt over India’s relationship with Russia.
Then Jaishankar responded firmly and stating that “I don’t think we have given cause for any angst,” emphasizing that in today’s world, countries don’t have exclusive relationships.
To further explain, Dr. Jaishankar made a comparison with Pakistan. He said that if the logic of “angst” applied, then many countries have relationships with Pakistan, so it would make sense for India to feel the same way. His message was clear: India’s ties with Russia should not be a source of conflict or concern for other countries like Australia.
In the interview, Dr. Jaishankar explained that India’s strong ties with Russia are important not just for India, but for the world. He said that by maintaining a relationship with Russia, India can play a key role in bringing both Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table to find peace.
He also explained that India buying Russian oil, despite Western sanctions, is part of this strategy to keep communication open. He believes India’s unique position helps in pushing for a peaceful resolution.
