Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have brought in Mayank Agarwal to fill in for Devdutt Padikkal for the rest of the IPL 2025 campaign, as the team continues its push for a playoff berth and their first-ever IPL trophy.
Devdutt Padikkal has played a vital role in RCB's top order and was their second-leading run-getter after 11 games. In the IPL 2025 season, Padikkal featured in 10 innings, amassing 247 runs, which included two fifties, and maintained an impressive strike rate of 150.60.
Bengaluru's talent Mayank Agarwal, who originally began his IPL journey with RCB, is set to make a comeback to the franchise after over ten years, as confirmed by the team in an official statement released on Thursday evening.
The explosive right-handed batter has featured in 127 IPL games, accumulating 2661 runs. His record includes one century and 13 half-centuries in the tournament. Mayank has been signed by RCB for a sum of Rs 1 crore.
"It's really unfortunate to lose Devdutt at this stage of the tournament, especially after the impact he's had this season. He’s been a key part of our top order. We wish him a speedy recovery. At the same time, we're pleased to welcome Mayank Agarwal to RCB. His experience and versatility will prove valuable for us as we head into the business end of the season," said Mo Bobat, Director of Cricket at RCB.
